Knock knock

Postby stevec » Tue Feb 14, 2006 3:09 am

I have a knock sound from the rear somewhere and can't work out where. It's like there's a loose marble in the spare wheel well.
I've just had her serviced with PN and apart from replacing the front ARB bushes the suspension was sound.
The suspension was lowered before I bought and there's no evidence of the exhaust hitting etc / droplinks seem OK - is there anywhere else I should be looking?
Please advise - it's driving me nuts!!!

Steve, the knocking is most likely either the rear ARB droplink or bushes, change both if they havn't already been done.

Maybe you have a loose marble in the spare wheel well!
I had a similar problem when I first got the car - turned out it was a loose wheel nut rolling around under the space saver.

You mention the rear suspension is sound but I know from experience that its only sometimes when you get the bushes off that you can see how knackered they are. My guess would be rear droplinks and/or rear ARB bushes.

I'd say check that your spare is good and secure, and that the jack is fairly secure too.

After that as the lads already said arb bushes and droplinks are the obvious candidates...

Another thought, could it be a brake pad without its spacer? happened someone else I know, drove him nuts trying to find it and turned out to be a brake pad rattling in the caliper (while not braking obviously), as the clip to keep it in place was broken.

Thanks guys.

Just had the car serviced and I told Paul about the noise. He said all of the rear bushes were OK but, as you say, it mightn't be apparent untill they're removed.

I'll take out the spare & jack and go for a spin.

The calipers seem sound - not a budge out of them.
