replacing windscreens

Postby roykeane » Thu Apr 20, 2006 12:15 am

I have to be honest guys/gals, this country is such a rip off, (Eddie where are you?). I have a lovely crack spreading through my windscreen and getting bigger by the day and I decided to ring around to get prices having okayed it with my insurers. Firstly I had to ring all but one of them at least four times and repeat the same info to get a quote. The worst of the whole lot of them was Autoglass in Kilkenny who wanted a staggering €1,050 incl VAT. I was furious and let fly. Plus the fact why should it make any difference to the price whether it is out of your pocket or through insurance. Do materials and labour suddenly increase in cost through insurance? Nuts!

I know exactly what you mean, but this is half the problem with insurance companies, they won't make any effort to keep their own costs down and still expect people like us to pay through the nose. I've found exactly the same problem with bodyshops in the past.

Its well known and nothing is being done about it. Yet another reason this shower of ghouls running the country should be kicked out next election (and shouldn't have got back in last time either!! )

Care to share some of the other quotes with us? I recently enquired about a windscreen for an integra. I rang two windscreen places, I don't have the figures to hand now, but one place quoted approximately twice the price of the other :smt101

I had a new windscreen put in last year in finglas. It went through my insurance and the total cost (just got the renewal that showed it) was less than 600.

I had one quote of €510 incl VAT and a more reasonable one of €480 incl VAT but before I go handing out names or phone numbers I want to get it done and get it done right. The guy with the €480 quote was supposed to come to my house this evening and complete the job but as of yet no sign of him. I am going looking for the candles now.
The more I deal with people within any trade, the more I am becoming dissillusioned and coming to the conclusion of them not being interested unless it's a big price job. Then they wonder why we have so many foreign nationals coming in to do the job better and cheaper.

Windscreen replacements are ridiculous...

I had the screen replaced in my EK civic - back in the day...

I got quoted 400euros for the screen... and since there was only af few chips and stuff in the screen I said..right no..I'll hold off on the screen for a bit..

The guy then turned around gave me his mobile number and said...call me on sunday - I'll do it for 200euros then..

So I did..

Showed up at my house, company van and all...

Crooks the loty of them..

...still...I got me a cheap windscreen...no questions asked.. no paperwork..all cash payment ;-)

Sadly I lost the guys number when I lost my old phone.. Bugger..
