Changing Altenator progress

Postby finers » Mon Apr 19, 2010 11:53 pm

Hi so i decided as seen as i have a bit of time i'm going to go at the alternator myself :D

just prepped the car before it got dark, am handy with this kind of stuff but no experience and learning all the time :D
Already have done a few bits n bobs inc. the steering rack ends

So i have been following the guide in Knowelege base, thanks jaynod

So far i have removed Powersteering belt "because it need replacing" and alt belt,
have disconnected the old Alt and unbolted she's ready to come out.

Tomorrow i will go at "Remove the two large bolts holding strut to hub and push hub and drive shaft forward to the front of the car (being careful not to pull shaft from gearbox or inner cv cup) and wedge or tie in place."

Here's shot of the next step I'm going to do tomorrow and need some clarification

I'm pretty sure i need to remove the bolts marked in green as i this will allow me to move the drive shaft out of the way so get the Alt out
would i be correct?

Now me not thinking took the bolts of the suspension marked in red, i put them back on but am wondering will this effect the chamfer?
as i think some wheels are adjusted in this location.

Thanks.

Sean.

Sorted :D, new one in old one out :D, just want to replace a few more bits before i try her,

What i did in the end was unbolt the strut and wishbone this gave me enough room to push aside drive-shaft and get old Alt out :D,
Pig of a job, but would do it twice as fast if doing it again:D

Hi. Just joined the 'Club' and as a new member could anybody please give a breakdown as to how to change the alternator on a GPX.Not an easy job by looking at it  With deep pockets and short arms I cannot afford stupid garage prices :!:
Also the light on the car (key) ignition sometimes works on door opening, but most of the time is 'off ' and the interior light delay dont work? Any bright spark (y) show me the light of of my errors :?:
Grateful if anybody can assist?

Cheers,

Jay

Hey here's the process i followed,

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=10065

Any other questions just ask, the toughest part i found was bolting the new one back on and attaching the cables because it
all had to be done in such a confined space, take your time and easily doable in a few hours, i had no experience but
had a good set of tools and good pari of hands :D,, Oh and alot of patience.

Good Luck!
