I'm having trouble with my my electrics. It seems to stem from a problem with the door. My interior lights, clock and the door open indicator light on dash not working. Thought it was a fuse but didn't find any blown.
The weird thing is that sometimes when I open or close the door it cuts power to my stereo or sometimes the speakers stop working and the stereo will stay on. I'm thinking it might be a short in the cables going to the door, just not sure how to go about finding it. Anyone got any ideas?

You could start with the easy bit. Check the leads from the battery. Make sure they are tight on the terminals and secure to the bodywork.

sounds like you could have a short - possibly in one of the little door switches.. best to do a visual inspection..

as far as I recall the switches are just held in place with two little screws - remove them pull out the switch - give it a bit of a clean - check the connections - reattach..

I tried disconecting the interior lights, and removed the door open sensors and its still blowing a fuse. Does anyone know what else is controlled by the same fuse? The clock, the reverse warning beeper, the lights left on warning beeper all not working. Is there anything else I should check?

I'm not too sure but I'm thinking that the interior light is activated by the door switch closing as you open your door which in turn activates a relay that switches the light on. If I'm right would anyone know which relay it is?? I disconected the lights and took off both door swithces and the fuse is still blowing. The only thing I can think of is a short in the cable before the fuse box inside the car (as I disconnected the light from here) or that the relay is broken. Anyone???????

It shouldnt blow a fuse if its a faulty relay, sounds like its a short in one of the wires. Have u got a multimeter?

I have, I prob shouldn't admit this as I'l look a bit silly, but I'm an electrician. Just not familiar with cars, I wouldn't know where to start looking for the cables that supply the fuse box. It'd be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Reverse warning beeper?!

When I reverse there is a beeper to signal your in reverse, its prob only on tiptronics as a warning so you know your in reverse. I'm guessing its a safety feature as its easy to slip into reverse without realising, as I have done once or twice.
