I've been doing a lot of work on the GR lately. Something happened after I changed the fuel filter though and put some tape around lambda sensor wires. Battery was disconnected and then reconnected. Car ran ok for a while but when it got up to working temp and I tried to drive it, it would stall. Took tape off wire as maybe two of them were shorting each other. This went on though with revs dropping to maybe 50/100rpm and the car was struggling to stay alive. Approx 30 mins later, it was fine and problem appeared to be gone.

One month on and I'm getting a new exhaust fitted, the guy disconected the battery and the same problem has come back, engine dying etc, etc. Problem then rectifies itself after 20 mins or so! I put a new stepper motor on about a year ago, the current symptoms are that of stepper problems sort of!
Any ideas on this :?:

I know I'm stating the obvious, but check all electrical cabling for breaks etc. This could be a problem with the throttle position sensor (TPS) - best thing to do is undertake a diagnostic check to rule out sensors:

Yeah cheers, i've been meaning to stick a machine on it. Could Lambda or oxygen sensors be the problem. Remind me again where the TPS is?!

Throttle position sensor! The Lambda could well the fault - throw your eye on it ensure its not physically fubared. Go with the diagnostic, it only takes a 15 mins all in.

On the throttle body ;)
Seriously though, you won't be able to tell if its knackered without a diagnostic check (unless you're handy with an ohm meter and have the hi/lo idle restistances to hand).

Ta,I know there's a couple of sensors close together around there! I think my dad has a machine that I can plug it into. I'll bore everyone with the results when I get them. It's still sort of a self fixing FTO :smt056

I had a similar problem

Postby Gerry » Fri Jul 06, 2007 11:58 am

Hi,

I had a similar problem with a merc c180 i used to own.
Car was very sluggish.
Turns out it was the air mass meter.

You sure it wasn't the fact it was a Merc? ;)

Interesting, I swapped the Air Mas out 2 years ago but it's something to think about. If you have an induction kit on, sometimes the oil can damage them esp. K&N oil.
