Guys, does anyone have a photo of the engine bay looking down at the side where the belts are? Had a funny noise on start up yesterday morning, sounded like something rubbing as the belts spun round. Dissappeared after a few minutes and hasn't come back since. Just concerned over it. Had a look in the bay and could see 2 belts. Is this normal or should the larger of the 2 belts have a cover over it. Can't remember from last tme I looked..........
mmmm!! GPX........and its not all mine anymore....:-(

Hiya..

Don't have a camera with me ..
But I have no covers on either of my belts..
..the sound could be a damp belt, mine "squeals" a bit some mornings..

(GPX 95)

Happy new year..

It wasn't so much a squeal but more like something flapping from the engine area as it was running. During the noise the engine struggled to idle properly but as I said it cleared after a minute and no re-occurance since. Hopefully a one off :?: :smt102

Still no re-occurance as of yet. Will probably be taking her down to Paul Nolan in the next few weeks for a service anyway. The stuff I need doing is as follows,
Full belt changeout, Front/rear droplinks/bushings replaced & both oils done. Does anyone who has had their P&J in with Paul know a rough price as to what all this will cost through him.

Just a thought, mad long shot - it wasn't the tappets making their clickity-clackety noise was it? I'm guessing you heard that before, but it does sound a bit like tappets, when you turned the engine on first, disappeared after a minute...

On that I changed my oil over Christmas, went fully synthetic, Shell Helix Ultra 5W40, and engine seems much quieter and is running v nicely since. I ran Wynns Engine Flush through it too (add it to the old oil & run at fast-idle for 15 mins before you drain that out). Gets my seal of approval anyway!
