Smokey, rich, fuel guzzling ruff fto

Postby nate » Thu Oct 13, 2005 5:36 pm

G'day, ive got a 95 gpx auto.
Took it to the mechanic to replace the pulse generator in the tiptronic and i drove it home sweet.
the next day the battery was flat, so i charged it, and started the car, and damn it was f-ed. Here whats wrong
*its smoking thick black way way to rich.
*got 75kms out of 3/4 of a tank, unlike normally getting 300kms,
its guzzling fuel the whole time.
*auto wont change gears untill the revs hit about 7000rpm, but 1st will change into 2nd in a clunky way like when you have your foot flat and change gears too low in the revs and into sorta farts into gear, thats what the gear changes are like when i change the gears manually.
I have to say it sound more tuff and gurgles, but i hope i have only stuffed the throttle body, i have reset the ecu twice with no change.
Help is needed?

Was it running ok before you went to the garage? If it was then I'd be straight back to the mechanic and get him to sort the problem!

Btw, what's a pulse generator when it's at home??

Dunno what a pulse generator is either, but it sounds like it could all be due to whatever that is, or whatever the guy had to do to replace it.

Definately bring it back and get him to look it at again, did he put the wrong part in maybe?

yeah thats what i said to him but the car was fine untill the battery went flat and stuffed something up.
Whats the actual part that pumps the fuel in, because i think it aint closing and opening properly, and i was told the gearbox doesnt work off the revs to change gear, but the throttle amount, so thats why i think the throttle body is buggered.

Is the throttle body what actually pumps the amount of fuel in?

btw, there are 2 pulse generators in the tiptronic auto box, they work off each other.

I think nates referring to the gearbox speed sensors, if they're not operating correctly, a diagnostic should show this up, you need a MUT-II diagnostic tool or you could do it yourself, its a simple process, see link below:

A faulty speed sensor wouldn't cause the problems you're experiencing, however, as the guys have said, bring the car back to the mechanic, if you're not happy, get a second opinion.

You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said 'Parking Fine'.

I checked the flux capacitator and it was flowing right at 1.2jigawatts
but anyway, thanks CJ for the link, i did the diagnostic test and 41 came up, so my injector system has a problem.
i will try my best tomorow to see what i can do.
Let you guys know how it flows
