ITG filter = Amazing

Postby pergau » Mon Oct 03, 2005 10:38 am

I got an ITG filter for my GPX and fitted it on Saturday. I can't believe the improvement that it has made to the car. They claim it will give 8.5Hp extra but it seems like a lot more - the car is more responsive and has way more oomph. And the noise is great.

Has anyone made a baffle to stop the warm air from the engine getting sucked in and what material did you use?

Now I want some more mods to improve the power.

.

8.5 brake is a bit optomisitic as we found out at the last RR session, the added induction roar certainly gives you the impression that you're going faster!

I ran 4" flexible alumium ducting up from the front bumper to the filter and user a section of heat-wrapped 9" Wavin piping (here we go again) to deflect some of the Tip gearbox heat away from the filter.

IMO, CAI is a must if you're thinking about sticking in an induction kit, chances are that you're loosing power due to the fact that that warm oxygen sp@rse air is now being fed into the engine.

I have some doubts over the 8 + BHP increase TBH - esp after putting my ITG and standard air filter through a rolling road at the same time at the last rolling road day. It certainly sounds a lot faster.
You are right to ask about the heat shielding though - this combined with a cold air induction is what is needed for max gains.

I had an ITG and decat exhaust fitted. I can't honestly say I think theres any extra power, but as said above the sound is amazing and I think it makes you think you are going faster :D

Eventually, you'd end up blowing the baffles in the back box, a decat should only be used on a SS aftermarket exhaust.

C J, have u by any chance pics of the cold air intake mod?been reading about the importance of this but not shure how to go about it, i.e does the flexi pipe just go direct from the bumper mesh to the front of the filter ,or does it actualy atatch to AFM pipe or something?and how did u manage to secure the heat deflector on the box...

Just the one Aiden, see below.

I used 4" flexible alu piping and cabled tied it at the front bumper mesh and at the hole where the original air ducting exits the engine bay (you will need to remove the existing ducting which will require removal of the bumper). I then used a 3" 45 degree Wavin (PVC piping) bend to direct the airflow up to the filter.

If you don't want to go removing the bumper, you could probably get away with using 2½" ducting (Halfords sell it) and run it down by the gearbox and up towards the front of the grill, I don't think it would be as effective though.

Ultimately, I would like to replace the flexible ducting with some custom piping, the folds in the ducting are not ideal for maximum airflow (thats a Wavin project for another day).

The Wavin based heat deflector is screwed into two holes that were used to secure the original airbox. I'll try and get a few pics which should make things a bit clearer.

Here you go Aiden:

View from behind of 45 deg Wavin bend from 4" flexible piping, original airbox hole used:

Section of Wavin (section of 9" PVC piping) headshield covered in heat reflective tape, original airbox screw hole was used to mount the shield over the gearbox:

Air entry point @ front bumper mesh:

When I get the opportunity, I'll replace the flexible piping with a solid section of Wavin, working out the angles might be difficult but it should allow for a better flow or air to the filter.

THANX,CJ for the time,i get the idea now, being quite handy as a builder it shouldent be a problem,,
IF i decide to go the way with the 4" solid piping and bends as u sugested may be beter for the air flow, ill let you know the pipe lengths and bends required for a pefect fit,to save u time,,
