Brakes...

Postby iwannafto » Fri Feb 16, 2007 9:21 am

Does anyone know if there is a part number for the front brake hose pipe as apparently mine is blocked and causing the lhs brake to stick and seriously effecting the braking power.
Mines a '97 GX manual.

The hose p/n is MR129883. How do you know its blocked, is this apparent when bleeding the brakes? Have you tried removing the hose to check passage?

CJ, I thought the front pads had gone so I brought the car to Fast Fit & the guy there said that the hose was blocked. TBH I haven't a clue about bleeding brakes etc and so would be very reluctant to try myself on such a critical item. Do you think the problem may be caused by something else?

Take it to a mechanic IWF, not sure I'd trust the opinion of a tyre fitter on this one. The only way to detmine if theres a blockage in the brake line is to bleed it.

I was talking to a mechanic this morning he seems to think its very unlikely that there is a blockage in the hose and its more likely to be either dirt/debris in the caliper or a seized caliper. He's going to strip it down next week so I should know then if its going to be a cheap or an expensive fix.

rubber hoses can collapse internally thus creating blockages, so it is a possibility
