Grooved discs

Postby GarLaf » Fri Oct 05, 2007 2:21 pm

I put new discs on the GX yesterday. Just wondering about the direction of travel. I put them on so the groove is cutting away from the caliper. Anyone recommend the opposite direction. Maybe they wear the pads quicker but is there a prefered way of getting the best performance.

interesting question. A quick search on google images shows them in both format on many cars... not sure whats recommended. I would have thought intuitively that they should cut away from the caliper so the gas/heat is pushed down the groove as the disc rotates and escapes....

I'd fit it like this:

simply because the centrigfugal force will draw out the gasses through the grooves.

Very scientific answers. I must have had them cutting in on the old GR as they were noisy and vibrated through the pedal.
