It would be useful to list out the insurance companies (and associated brokers if applicable) who are willing to provide FTO insurance cover in terms of new business (i.e. switching from one company to another). oh right...... no, but i am insured recently with them since jan with the fto so they are hipocritical

Surely theres more than just one insurance company that will take the FTO from new? Share your experiences folks...

I think a lot of insurance companies want drivers to be over 30 years of age on cars that are deemed to be high risk.

I find the best way to get a quote is to go into the insurance companies. That way I have never been refused but over the phone, loads of times!

XS direct were the only company that ever gave me a quote over the phone. They only cover f cars with a value greater than €5000 but they were flexible with me on this due to the sudden decrease in the value of cars. On renewal it doesn't matter what the value of the car is.

One caveat to Setanta, they only quote FTOs with drivers over 24 years old. Apparantly they only have one company they deal with that will insure FTOs and she remembered it because someone on here got a quote from them the week before last or a fortnight ago.

That was me i'd say, was trying to get a few quotes as my insurance is nearly up with Quinn but didn't have any joy. They said over 24 after they called me back.

Just tried an online quote (only nearest option is a 95 GR automatic... mine is a 94). Quoted €1,021.52 (excess €250) for comp.

Currently paying just over half that (albeit with massive staff discounts - gross premium starts at €2415 )

Probably the usual insurance company rubbish. When I rang I was told no as the car is a '97 and over 10 years old. Also says it on the website I think.

My car is 11 years old and probably in better condition than many cars that are only 5 years old. I think the refusal to insure cars older than 10 years is a joke. Why are we paying for NCT certificates every 24months if they don't prove the car is road worthy? And... I hear there are plans to introduce the NCT EVERY year for cars that are 10 years or older! every 12 months! and still with these certs I won't be able to prove my car is safe and road worthy for insurance?
Or is there some other reason? maybe parts on cars older than 10 years old are too difficult to source for these insurance companies? well, in that case they could just write the car off surely? quite frustrating there are only 3 insurance companies on the list now, and 1 has a huge excess, and the other has a loading. lol. a joke. The FTOs are treated like a 1960s Lambo.

NCT is a joke, with the condition of the roads at the moment, I have mine next month, and I'll be surprised if my suspension is after holding up well enough to pass after driving the last few weeks on the surfaces I have been! Bad enough paying tax when they're doing nothing apart from splashing out on this too.

Might have some bad news.
I rang O'malley griffen as it was the only one i couldn't get though yesterday. She took my details and put me on hold. She came back on the phone and said there was no-one to insure me but the she and another person took a quote for ftos yesterday and the days before (more than likey you guys) for setanta but setanta told them that they shouldn't be insuring ftos with them due to the type of the car and they want to stop it.

She told me that they are waiting on setanta head office to get back to them for finalisation.
Maybe thats why you guys are still waiting on a call back from them

great. yeah thats defo me from yesterday. I rang them twice and they were waiting to hear back (obviously from setanta).
so.. fell lucky those of you who got your foot in the door just before they decided to can FTOs.
Still no word back off them but I'll leave it a few days before I call back for the bad news.
So we conclude that the only people taking on FTOs for new business are Quinn Direct (got quote online as new customer) and AXA (got quotes online, on phone, and via broker).
All quotes were over 1300euro. sick as a dog I am.
