To facelift or not to facelift

Postby mark » Fri Jul 15, 2005 10:18 am

Ok. I'm curious who here preferes pre-facelift FTOs to facelift models, only based on looks as opposed to age ?

Edit: Added a poll - CJ

I'm in the facelift camp for two reasons (in order of priority):

1. I prefer the open mounted facelift look in that it manages to make the car look a little bit more agressive and at the same time that bit sleeker, difficult to achieve.

2. Its that bit rarer, in saying that, facelifts appear to be coming into the country with much greater frequency nowadays so that kinda takes the edge off of it.

2 different looks if you ask me... but assuming you're keeping things simple and subtle and not planning many other body mods I'd go for a facelift ;)

I know of one in champagne silver with 18's, drilled disks allround and a mongoose exhaust- it looks brilliant.

But that said I really like the look of MfFTO's one too - just needs some bigger wheels and lowering to fill out the arches ;)

I haven't been able to decide between the 2. The only thing I have with the prefacelift is the indicator/foglight cluster looks a little dated to me. Other than that its a good bumper methinks.

Em I mean prefacelift looks soo much better, you should buy a prefacelift bumper straight away, just happens to be one here:

As Shane says classic versus facelift - it has to be facelift - however I prefer some modded classic fronts to the facelift on its own - the ideal would obviously be a modded facelift (such as a bozz facelift) - the big problem is the dated front indicator units.

I've 17's on my car - I don't think I should go any bigger on the car - I would have fitted lowering springs a long time ago but I'm just not comfortable with how low my current Top Mix and DC skirts are even on standard height suspension. Having said that I am pricing some KYB dampers and springs at the mo so I'll probably bite the bullet - I know it will look better but I won't be looking forward to badly surfaced roads, car parks and speed bumps.

Personally, I prefere the 'old' style front, personal taste as I feel the facelift looks a little 'higher'(off the ground) at the front, like it in side profile though. I'm wondering if the facelift design will age as well as the pre. Has anyone done any mods or are there any kits available for a facelift ?

Right i voted facelift, and it only won by a small margin, i like cj like the more opened mouth on the bumper but that said cutting away some of the preface lift bumper and adding a front lip can make a nice open mouth design too, after all thats generally what the boss speed is.

I have to say, i'd be in the minority, I prefer the pre facelift front, I think the mouth on the facelift is just a bit too big.

I have to vote for the original look. It has a Jaguar style classic look that is very understated. IMHO the facelift is a bit garish!

Hope I haven't offended too many people!

I used to prefer the pre-facelift, definately the pre-facelifts that made my take such notice and want the car so badly in the first place.

However as has been said by someone already, I think indicator cluster on the pre-facelifts are very dated looking now, the facelift indicators are infinately better styled, so now I think i've swayed... dunno!

I ordered a pair of Jay's facelift light pods for the prefacelift bumper, arrived today. I should have the best of both worlds, think it'll be my ideal bumper.

Just need to get me some lights now...

Out of interest, new or second hand, copy or original? There not that many places sellng them these days, Japco and a place in Hong Kong are the only outlets I'm aware of.
