Gotta say, after getting mine through a few days ago (surprisingly to me 
) I took the old advice and did a few basics.
Clean the car thouroughly inside and out, If you're a borderline fail and the inspector has to carry out the test sitting in fag ash and empty coke bottles then he will fail you
Couple of days before test get some RedX from your local car shop and stick it in with half a tank of petrol, then take her out for a good spin and clear all the sh*t out
On the way to the test really get the revs up and give her a good hard drive,
Check & clean your number plates and insure that the county is displayed "as gaeilge" at the top, I've lost count of the number of people telling me they failed cause the county name was not on the reg plate.
Follow these basics and as long as the car is mechanically sound then you should pass no bothers

Most people do the actual test as a pretest, so they can learn what is wrong and get it fixed, instead of being screwed over by a mechanic who's making up things that are not actually wrong with your car...
What if you have 'Báile Átha Cliath' replaced by 'Playboy' in large, bright pink glitter text?
