I have a desktop computer connected directly to my eircom broadband router. I used the laptop via wireless to connect to net around the house.
How can I network the 2 pc's over the wireless router so as to allow me save files to the Desktop as space is getting tight on the Laptop.
I know I can get an external harddrive but It is a pain having to lug it around.
Hope this makes sense to the IT guys on here.
Any help appreciated

I have finally got around to networking my PC's.
Desktop connected to wireless router and laptop wireless around the house. Have the folowing problem. When I set the IP addresses for the network , I can view shared folders but I loose my internet connection. Is this something to do with a proxy or what. If I set the IP to automatic the interenet works perfect.
Also need to set up to network printer attached to desktop
All help appreciated

Have you set the two IPs to be the same by chance?
If yes you have to change the last digit in one of them.
If yes you have to change the last digit in one of them.

Set a static IP for the system (server) where you are planning to host files and use dynamic (DHCP) for the rest. If your DHCP range is 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254 (where 192.168.0.1 is the gateway / address of your router) then change the range to start at 192.168.0.3. Use 192.168.0.2 as the static IP of your server (needs to be manually configured).
All of the above should be undertaken through the routers \ wireless access points web admin portal.
Set your printer up on the desktop, go to the properties of the printer, enable sharing.
On your laptop go to Start>Run and type in \\x.x.x.x (where x.x.x.x is the IP address of your desktop), an explorer window will pop up with the printer in view. Double click the printer to install drivers and away you go.
