Chip on the FTO

Postby rsg » Wed Sep 29, 2004 3:18 pm

Hey guys,

I just got my fto serviced for about 160 pounds (R1800), and it's running great. The mechanic here in SA has done a few FTO's before and told me a little interesting fact. From what I've heard and correct me if I'm wrong but no one here on the site really chips there cars because it doesn't do much to the perfomance.

This guy just did an FTO with an Flatbed Air Filter, an exhaust and a chip and got an extra 30bhp (23KW) on the wheels, he showed me the dyno results.

I'm going to probably do this soon, and hopefully I get the same results if not better because I got a decent air filter and I want to do branches. The chip, branches, an exhaust and dyno is going to cost me R4300, which is about 370 pounds. Does this sound decent to anyone?

Thats only feckin amazing - I'd like to know the name of the parts he is using - particularly on the Manifold side.

The chip starts to make sense once you get a full exhaust system, fuel pressure regulator and air filter - but I'd have to question what parts he is using at that money???

I presume that the extra 30BHP gained also included a de-cat??

Also what were the start and finish figures from the dyno chart - and the model FTO??

I'm didn't see the start and end figures, but I'll let you know when I see him again. I don't think the parts are anything special, he said something about the altitude differences and something that makes the difference. He told me R1300 (100 pounds) for the exhaust and a dyno (which usually goes for about 60 pound here), but I actually forgot to ask about the decat but I don't think that includes it.

The model of the FTO was a GPX.

I'd be very skeptical about getting gains like that even from a full exhaust and chip. Although at that kind of money I'd deffo try it - sounds like its a bargin - things must be much cheaper over there :)[/quote]

Things are a lot cheaper here, I could of gotten mt cam belt and a tensioner for less than half the price if I looked around before importing.
Anyways, when I get everything done I will let you guys know.

Raf, get as many details as you can about fuel and parts used (esp. the chip), its long been known that power gains from aftermarket mods are minimal on the FTO. It would be useful if you could get before and after figures for bhp and torque.

These gains sound like a world's first - personally I don't believe it either.

Prove me wrong !!
