LOL never even checked the date.. It made perfect sense in my head at the time Oh well..

Is the car advertised anywhere - CBG / Autotrader etc??
Don't buy without taking a good look at the buyers guide on the home page of this site - if you can get the car up on a ramp then do - may be worth checking droplinks, bushes etc. Also check belts and tensioners for signs of wear - all can be used to bargain on the price.

There are plenty of good FTO's for sale at the moment - you really should take a good look around before making a decision.

Already printed the buyers guide - must have thumbed through it a million times now - but will give it a good read again this evening.

Sadly I don't have a lift at hand - but have no worries - if I smell I rat I'll hold out a bit longer for the right car.

I'm hoping she wont be the illusive Diesel model

Haven't a clue I'm afraid.

Seller is coming to my place of work tomorrow, as he works just around the corner from me.

Is being sold as a GPX so it had better be one.

Was looking at a red GR-Tip in swords (applewood village) and the guy trying to sell it wasn't really that into cars - yet he was trying to set up a business...
He claimed the car had NOS installed cause it had the sticker on one of the windows (!!!)
He also claimed that it didn't need piping or a bottle, because it was special factory fitted NOS that only worked in TIP mode.

Admittedly I'm no car buff - but I still found it difficult not let out a snigger.
Auto was all over the show, car was badly faded - and was heavily overpriced.. Looked awesome in pics though.

It takes all sorts I suppose...

Maybe its just me, but I get a little suspicious when they take 3 pictures of the car and not one of them shows the left hand side of the car. Its probably fine but worth a close look!

. I'm the same.. I'll definately be checking panel gaps and so forth. I sorely wish I could stick her on a lift.
Usually if there's damage it shows in the gaps, and in the breaking.
But I'll be sure to get a good look around her.

I don't know why you'd stick pictures of a dirty engine bay on the web, the they could have done was to give it a quick wipe.

Alyways... I'll let you all know how I get on this afternoon. Could be awesome, could be heartbreaking.

Well its definetly a Mivec engine in the picture - so a GPX it is then.
If I was selling a car though - I'd certainly want to clean the engine bay.

Oh yeah...No doubt about it..

Just back from a test drive...she drives and handles like a dream.
No rust. No funky noises from suspension - ride is pleasant.

However.

Rear bumper had a soft dent (in the plastic!!) - there had obviously been some contact with a red thinginmyjig.
Rear bumper also had 5 scrapes through the paint just behind farside rear wheel.
Also paint is chipping away - looks like a bad respray.
Both front lights were "burnt" - one very badly - one not quite so badly.
Farside tail light was missing inner-lower corner - definately needs to be replaced.
All metalwork looks fine, car doesn't appear to have had any work done to it - paint job on main body is definately the original job.
Interiorwise there is a burn mark on the center console,ashtray has been used. Burnmark in gear-bag-thing (can't remember word)

Car will go to garage saturday-sunday-monday to get all these things fixed.
Car is being NCT'ed next week.

Owner will then call me for a second viewing.

He claims to have bought it for 7500euro - he was definately ripped off!

I wont pay 6900 for her..I might go in with a lower offer though..trying to make up my mind.

Did anybody ever import a car from the UK?

What do you mean burnt? One problem the FTO lights do suffer from is peeling, its fairly common, but can be sorted out handy enough. Are they peeling or does it look like someone took a blow torch to them or something?

Ah no they're just peeling... Kinda like cataract (spelling?)
I read somewhere that to fix it I'd need a grain 200 sandpaper and some t-cut. - and a touch..

It just seems like your man didn't bother even getting it ready for sale. which is what bothers me slightly.

It was so nice to drive though - I just know in my heart that I would n't be able to live the cosmetic defects - they would drive me mad!

Oh I forgot. There's a ding in the near-rear-quater - obviously from some thoughtless (fourletterword - and NOT love) opening their door into the car...would drive me BONKERS knowing it was there.

I'd really love to know if I could just buy a car in UK drive it into Ireland on the UK reg. and then get all the IRL registration sorted afterwards.

Don't really think this is a realistic option esp when you take rate of exhange, taxes and travel expenses into account - you would likely get better value in Ireland at the minute.

Hmm, you could be right here MfFTO - if you're planning on modding the car then you could always sort the cosmetic bits at the same time, i.e. fit some rear aprons (topmix do them don't they?) and have the bumper resprayed. You can fix the lights yourself and you could consider a leather retrim or some aftermarket seats which would sort the burn marks as well as seriously update the interior.

However it doesn't sound like this guy has really looked after the car so for that reason alone I'd be reluctant - and you'll probably have to spend on getting bushes and drop links done at some stage in the near future.

MIVEC is selling a real nice example - ok so it's a lot more at 10k but I'd say you get much more car for the money, in fact it looks mint!! Probably shouldn't have said that though cause I'm thinking of taking a look at it myself

Expensive, very expensive. And alternatives are equally expensive although I personally have not seen anything that looks better than the standard rear clusters.

Just went there. Their forum seems to be down atm..

The ding was between the end of the drivers door and the rear wheel..approx same height as the door handle.

Oh while I remember there was a lot of chipping on the very edge of the drivers door..is that normal?? I suppose it's a 10year old paint job - but still..I'd prefer not to get a respray!

Was thinking of modding a little alright ... but was planning on doing it a few bits at the time..rather than the whole thing in one bold move.

Would love to be able to spend 10k on a set of wheels right now..but I just can't..already stretched enough with insurance and all.

I've settled a price on the original FTO is was looking at, but the current owner still needs to sort a few things before I'm willing to hand over the dosh. I need to make sure I have options

Oh I've been having a good ol' think about the paint work in the orignal FTO (see pictures in previous posts) - and she would definately benefit from an exterior respray - especially after I've had that DING undinged.

Is there anybody out there who knows a painter who might be up for a wee nixer? Any thoughts on cost?

Current owner is claiming she's a limited edition - however he doens't know what's limited about her - other than "it's the best spec GPX you can get, so I choose it over other FTOs and paid more"..Sounds iffy to me, I didn't see anything special (other that the usual awesomeness of her being an FTO!) about her. Any thoughts?

The only really limited edition that I'm aware of is the car of the year FTO that was brought out in celebration of the FTO winning japanese car of the year for 94 and 95. Those are yellow, so no mistaking it for those ones! Other than that there's the aero series, which is a few bits of bodykit, which this one doesn't have. GPvR would be relatively rare but you couldn't consider it a special edition.

I haven't seen anything in the pictures that would indicate that it is a limited edition, bodywork is completely standard, wheels are standard, interior looks completely standard.

Either he's spinning you a line with that or whoever sold it to him spun him that line when he was buying it, but someone's leg is being pulled somewhere! I guess no harm once he's not looking for extra money because its a 'special edition'.
