Leather retrim has arrived!!!

Lighter than I thought it would be too! Looking fwd to getting home and having a good look at it!

Nice on kev, what colour did you go for in the end? Make sure and set aside a few days, it will be worth it though!

yep defin worth it, start on rear seat first, gives a good idea of whats
ahead.... buy plenty of tiny zip ties and lose the hogg rings! should take
you 2 days.

Its pretty much black all over with FTO in silver on the head rests, less is more deal!

I ordered one of the hog ring tools too, so might have a go at those, someone mentioned it might be better with the hog rings? Not sure if its in there though, might be in the middle of the leather somewhere. (delivered in what I can only describe as a foam pillow case! )

Plan for this evening is the bottom of the rear seat, and if I've time the top of it too.

How do you mean better? Use cable ties, fitting all of those hog rings will add half a day onto the installation time.

yep no different, should infact be able to get zip ties tighter

Ok, cool... just read on ftooc somewhere that the hog rings could hold it better or something? Must look that up again.

I'll have a go at the back seat and see how it goes anyway sure!

Ok, after spending ages just removing the cover from the back seat, I have seen the light, and will be cable tying!! Flippin 'eck there's no chance of the covers moving around on these seats! In some places there were 3 hog rings in the one spot! think they messed up the first one, tried again, messed that up and tried it another time.

Put the loose leather cover over the nekked back seat once I had the cover off, very I will not rest until its on!!

good man, you will get much quicker as you get into it. took me much
longer to remove old covers, than fitting the leather with zip ties

Got it on the FTOOC group buy that Bandit is running on there. Took about 4 weeks to arrive.

I got all the bits you could get - door cards, rear side covers, cubby box covers, dash tweeter covers, etc. Plus I ordered a hog ring tool 'cos I was going to use those, and the tool was supposed to make it easy. It hasn't arrived at all though, waiting to hear back about it. Total came to just over €1k. My justification to myself is that it'll add value to the car.

I'd say theres a fair bit of work involved though - and I bet the front seats will be a lot more labour intensive than the rear.

Not sure how much value it will add to the car but you'd very easily be able to sell on the seats to anyone on the forum who could trade in their normal seats when it comes to you selling the car.

Theres actually an opening here for anyone who has the time to buy in the FTO leather templates and sell seats with the retrim on - and taking the standard seats as trade-ins for the next customer.

All in, it took me the equivalent of 2 days labour (16 hours) to do the whole lot, bear in mind the learning curve in terms of getting your approach right.
I'd say you could get it down to a day with practice.

The front seats need to be more or less dismantled to get the old covers off and new on, the back seats are fairly straight forward.

I did the bottom of the back seat first, being careful taking it off it took a fair while, but I got the upper part striped and covered and back on Saturday afternoon/evening.

Spent a while yesterday (between match on telly & work had several interruptions) dismantling and taking the old cover off the passenger seat, would have finished it yesterday evening but for work.

Its taking a while to do this as its the first time I'm doing it. Front seats especially its just took time to work out whats the least I could get away with taking off.

I reckon if it was someone used to doing it, and thus knowing exactly what they need to take off where, could have it all done in about a day, given a clear run at it, but a long day.

That doesn't include the possibility of having to refurb any of the foam though!

I'm taking lots of pics though so might well put something together myself once I have the seats sorted.

Is this good. By the way i bought the 98 FTO from Sean Motors that ye said was overpriced. Just to let you know I got it for a lot less then he was asking and he's going to stand over the NCT, so I don't think I did too badly

No idea about cartronics, assuming thats all fitted it could be ok, but it depends on the quality of the leather they used, etc. Fitting takes a lot of effort as I'm finding out.

What model did you buy? GX/GPX?? Colour??
What did you get it for in the end? It would be interesting to see by how much Sean Byrne dropped as his asking prices are usually high on all the models he sells.
