Hi mate,

Did it works before you replaced the matrix, ie go up and down thru the control steps?
if it did work before you went near the matrix and then stopped working when u had replaced the matrix then u could have easly left a wire block connector unplugged.
Are all the wire connectors plugged into the back of the climate control unit?

I never heard of a resistor pack going on an fto.
And the chances that the one in ur car is defective as well as the one you got to replace it with are very slim.

Think you need to retrace ur steps, check that you have reconnected everything.
If ya still cant find the problem, get a loan of a climate control unit and try it.

If it turns out that both resistor packs are gone ill give ya my fto for keeps

Hi Gerry,

Thanks, I can't remember, but I turn the wee handle and the power goes up on the screen but it's only when its maxed out that it actually comes on ... So the display is fine. I'll retrace my steps tomorrow and have a look it's probably something simple I'm sure but I'm holding out for that blown resistor pack ;) lol

Hi,

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back.

I removed the control panel from the other FT and plugged it in .. Same problem ... heating only works on full power. I did however notice when you are on full power and click it down a notch there was a click sound coming from the Relay " Resistor Pack " I took the resistor pack out just being curious and tried the heating again .. this time nothing, nothing even on full power. Tried both relays too be sure and same also, heating only works on full power ... is it possible they are both broke?? Could I really be getting another FTO ;)

I have managed to source the part from ebay for a few pounds so I might order this one and hope for 3rd time lucky, what are the chances of 3 blown?

Any other suggestions lads?

Thanks
Scott

That's my suggestion. If possible, check that it's working in donor car. Then you will be closer to solving problem.

I'll go back to the donor car tomorrow charge the battery and see what happens :) Hopefully something ... it's been lying a while but the girl told me when they took it off the road nothing was wrong with it. So fingers crossed lol

Well I'm no expert, but maybe switch as much of the heating system as you can from the donor car to the other car. The centre console is an easy switch. Check the fuses too. I'm sure the others might have an idea or two.

Not looking forward to doing that lol! Also what tool do I need as the engine management light is on could it be because the heating isn't fully working?

That would be something I would be checking before worrying about the heating and which might possibly, but unlikely point to your solution. Get a diagnostic done. Search the forum on how to do this, or bring to mechanic. You'll need a diagnostic tool if doing it yourself. There are lists of fault codes on the forum.

If by tool you mean a few inches of wire then yes, you do.
You just have to short two pins, there's instructions somewhere about.

FIXED!

At long last the heating is now fully operational :-) Turns out it was the black " coolant " unit inbetween the matrix and the blower unit!

Thanks for all the help guys!

Also if anyone is looking for parts I'm breaking an FTO 2.0 litre manual, give us a shout, I can send parts to ireland :)

I'm trying this at the moment, old heater matrix sprung a leak. I got the old one out by removing the plastic bends on the end and then slipping it out. However, I don't fancy doing the reverse with the new one, its a tight space and trying to make sure I have a watertight seal with the 4 screws on each pipe seems a bad idea.

I followed the guide, and everything is loosened off, but I can't see how the heater box is going to lever back far enough to put the new one in without something breaking?

Anyone else have similar problems?

I ended up taking off the pipes and screwing them back on again, saved me so much time and won't break anything that way at least.

Yup, one job I hope I never have to do again! I ended up breaking the part that clips onto the flap in front of the heater matrix from underneath, not getting any replies anywhere so far for a replacement. Will put it back together soon without it if I can't get one shortly!
