Sunroof Auto-up

Postby baby_mikey » Thu Jul 16, 2009 4:25 pm

Can anyone help me with this?

I have a Clifford G4 concept 500 alarm and i have auto windows up when the alarm is armed. I have managed to wire the wing mirrors to the central locking to get them to fold up and down too but i'm just missing one thing! i want to tie the sunroof into this also so it will close along with the windows.

Does anyone know if this is possible and how to go about doing it? Which wires go to what etc? Can i just splice in some wires from the windows to connect to the sunroof?

Thanks in advance

Mike

So.....

Do i assume that no-one is that sure on how to wire up the sunroof?

Can anyone tell me where i would find the control unit for the sunroof/or a convenient place to find the wires? or does this link directly to the ECU?

Whilst on the subject of sunroof- does anyone know how to take out the sunroof cover and retrim it? I'm hoping i dont have to dismantle the whole roof lining?

Thanks

Sebastian knows how the sunroof comes apart. He's not too hot on putting it back together though :D

you need to drop the whole unit to remove the cover properly.

if you wanna take down the blinds , you can do so by opening the sunroof just a bit .
there are clips (2 on each side/each panel) that need to be clipped back and the blinds will slide out easy enough.

to get to the wiring you will have to take down the roof liner ( take out back seats , back panels, pillar covers ..)
the control box is somewhere around the driver's sun visor , near the switch

there is a post in the knowledgebase on how to remove roof liner

correct me if I'm wrong Seb, but isn't taking out the blinds a bit more complex than that? isn't the back half hooked around something as well as being clipped into the rail?

OP, I wouldn't recommend going near the sunroof blind, they're very fragile and fiddly, and wrapping them in fabric will impede the movement of the blinds. may be better to spray them with autoglym black dye.

tested a few million ways to take them out .
So far that's the easiest and fastest option .

warning : if any of the clips break , bye-bye working blinds

but you will agree, to actually get the blinds back in again, the roof lining has to be dropped?

Nope, I've had my blinds in and out a few times.
Only takes a minute and I never went near the lining.

Thanks to all you guys for your advice. I'm going to give it a bash at the weekend (weather dependant) so will let you know how i get on.

As for the sunroof auto close.....i think i can live with pressing a button before i get out of the car!

Cheers

Took out and put back in my blinds without dropping the roof-lining, and they're working fine too.

Guys,

Took the sunroof blinds out lastnight no problem. Took about 5 mins once i figured out what i was doing. So thanks for the advice- i hope getting them back in is just as easy!

Now, the sunroof fabric is hanging off the blind with the hang grip and missing alltogether from the second blind. Are these two pieces upholstered seperately and then just slide over eachother? Or are they upholstered as one peice?

I want to retrim them to their former glory- is the material likely to be available at any good fabric shop or is this something fairly specialised? I'm assuming just some good fabric glue will keep the fabric in place?

I did this myself not too long ago Mike.

The 2 pieces are seperate (or at least I re-upholstered them seperately and they look good). The original material seemed very thin, and I'd advice using a fairly thin material again so they slide over each other easily when back in.

I used a grey faux suede. It got it off a upholsterer so could pick out the closest colour he had. Its a nice texture too. You can get faux suede off the ebay too fairly cheap. That, a spray on glue (again I got this off the upholsterer), and a scalpel and you're sorted. :)

Oh, and the handle will pop out, so do this, apply the fabric all over, cut the hole for the handle, it will pop in, and you'll get a nice tidy finish.

Thanks Topcat. Very useful information.

Unfortunately i still can't find a half decent match for material so my quest continues. I think with the advice i've received from everyone it shouldn't be too much of a problem once i get the material right.

Cheers
