read data and chip your own car

Postby monkey » Wed Oct 10, 2007 11:22 pm

diagnostics is a hobby of mine and use autoenginuity on modern cars but I have always wanted to now the black art off chipping.
Im on my way and hopefully you too.
hear go's.
are cars are not obd 1 or obd 2 but obd 1.5 in the modding curcles
mitsubishi had a guess at obd 2 before it was confirmed and come out with its own for the time being.
if you go to www.openecu.org
its a free program for copying your rom and modding it has forums too.
problem is are cars are read only roms so need a piggy back ecu to download modded rom, you can also log how your car runs in real time with mitsulogger, drive your car and log all data to read later for sensor problems or for modding info like is it running rich and at what revs is it doing so.
all this uses 1 cable from http://www.tactrix.com/product_info.php ... ea084baa3a

79 dollas thats 55 euros to us if you go to http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/ECU
you can read up on ecu and altering them it's subaru based but its a start and knowladge.
also if you get time go to

http://www.enginuity.org/Enginuity/Download

http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/resources.php

if you hilght a link and press control and c it will copy link and then control and v in the address bar to past .
I have started and hope we all can look into this I am having a brain melt down trying to learn this all.
also through reading i found out that in japan there fuel ron is much higher than are 95 ron and are mapped to there petrol because fto's are for japan ownly that means that we are losing power buy putting in 95 ron petrol cool or what.
now how to put better fuel in i do not now we do not have super unleaded in ireland and I do not beleave these magic in a bottle things.

hope this starts some good threads off we can all learn from this.
any body with computer savi will learn fast and bring use all along for the ride.

Maxol will be doing a higher octane petrol soon, which contains bioethanol or something.

thanks colm.

by the way if you download openecu I have hundreds of normal and modded roms so you can look at them in the program and compare what the hell thay have done
to learn off of
you can also get them off one of the links i posted evo roms but that do's not matter we are learning
only 6 or 7 roms to look at
I have hundreds for all makes of car got them off ebay ages ago if you want them you will have to tell me how to upload them to this site around 250k a rom and have 4.6 gig of them
this may help us on abit faster

I'm happy enough with the way my engine's working at the moment. I reckon Mitsubishi tried hard with the standard setup.

Yea the mivec engine is basically as good as it gets lads have tried moddifing/chipping ect and got little or no gains somtimes makin it worse, i think mitsi got it spot on, only way to really improve is turbo/supercharger/nos.

It'd be interesting to see what figures Mitsi could get from a 2.0L 24V V6 Mivec engine if the FTO was relaunched today...
220 or 230 BHP I'm guessing.

Ahh wouldn't it be lovely

The Mitsi standard is called MUT-II, have a look at this thread here:

http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/phpBB2 ... php?t=5327

I would be very wary of changing the code in a standard ECU ROM unless I had the right equipment at hand undertake the task properly. The risk of damaging the car in some way is just too high for my liking.

When you consider that emission controls are stricter nowadays, I would imagine they would get less out of the 6A12 N/A lump, its fairly highly tuned as it is.

Well they have a 16V 4 cylinder mivec engine in the evo 9 pushing out 280 bhp or more so i'm guessing your guess would be on the low side. my guess would be 300 bhp plus.

Daz...

Edit, yes i know thats with a turbo but i'm guessing if they were to relaunch they would add a turbo to the top spec.
