Quinn will not insure the FTO!

Postby adrian » Fri Feb 15, 2008 11:26 am

Hey there,

Buying CJs FTO... making a few calls for insurance. The car will be in my wifes name as I have the XC90. I will be named on the policy though.

123.ie - Quote 927 euro with a 1k excess. 627 with a 2k excess.
EagleStar - Will not insure anything below 1995
Quinn - Told me that they will not take on any new business for FTOs.

I mean, come on... it's a fast car, but it's not a skyline GTR or anything. Why do they see these as such a risk??!

Very annoying. Awaiting a few quotes back, so we'll see what happens!

Adrian, I assume you're not with QD at the moment? If you have a policy with them and you say you've already bought the car they will definetely quote. The same should apply for most insurance company - push that fact that the car is already purchased.

Hey,

Na, I do not have a policy with them. Very very hard to get a quote... even FBD who are normally very good refuse to cover the car.

Will you be tranferring the insurance off another car (i.e. the Porsche)? If so (and you say that you've already bought the car but are waiting to sell the other one to transfer the insurance over), then most if not all companys will cover you. If this is not the case then you may need to get ringing around.

Re Quinn, I would put them under pressure and ask to speak to a supervisor. Tell them that your friend has an FTO covered with them and you can't understand why they won't do business with you - play the game ;) Looking through the forums, other owners are cover with most of the big insurance players. The broker route is also worth checking out - I'd recommend Britton from personal experience. Give Daves company (O'Reilly Cullen) a shout while you're at it...

Na, the 911 is staying for now... although it will be for sale soon... not soon enough to transfer the insurance off it. I have a few quotes now, AXA for 855 being the best so far... and awaiting a couple more, so all should be OK.

This is such a useful site for FTO ownership (or nearly ownership)...

I have a classic insurance policy on it as it's 15 years old and I do low miles... so only 780 as far as I remember.

They have to I think, cant refuse you a quote as long as you're with them on the same car.

Yeah they have to insure you if you already have a policy with them. They may hike up the price but they can't refuse you.
I don't think they will though, I just got me renewal from them and it was €110 cheaper than last year.

Called you the other day, well the office anyway. Wanted a St Pauls quote, they came in quite expensive actually.

why St.Paul's in particular? We have more price competitive policies out there for high end motors now, between schemes, discounts etc... If you're restricting yourself to one insurer then it's slightly more difficult as we may not put a lot of business their way.

I had a quote already from another broker for all the rest. You are the only one I know that does St Paul.

my insurance us up in 2 weeks with Quinn.... It was 800 a year fully comp, but some stoooopid person pulled in front of me in traffic and slammed on the brakes (I kid you not)... they then went to town with passenegr knee injuries and sore neck and back etc etc. there was virtually no damage to their car and cosmetic damage to my front bumper. they went all out though to milk the system, so Im really apprehensive what my policy quote will be in two weeks. I have 5 years no claims and full license (protected) but not doubt it will 6000euro or something quinn like. :( :( :(

Quinn Direct gave me a policy no problem I just said I had already bought the car gave them a sob story about getting to work blah blah and they quoted me €350 to cover me for the rest of the year on my existing policy (July 1st). So was €1760 in total but I'm on a first provisional & had a slight tip in the summer so was pretty pleased with it!! Hopefully have my licence by July though! I'd say a full year's cover will be hard enough in the MIVEC ha!

Did you get your quote yet?
