Carcraft?

Postby colm_mcm » Thu Oct 04, 2007 9:57 pm

Those of you who have seen my motor will have seen the few scratches, stone chips and scrape beside the passenger wheel-arch. and the joining of the side skirts in a mess

I'm thinking of 2 options:

1) get all the blemishes sorted out by someone like carcraft

2) get a respray in a different colour

Anyone got any thoughts?

If I go with option 1, I realise that the finish will never be perfect. The other problem is that the colour isn't a regular FTO colour and therefore will be a pain to match.

I'm leaning towards option 2 at the moment, these being the favourite colours:

I'm kinda liking the Nissan colour the best.

Anyhoo, anyone know if my car is worth fixing up or should I go the whole hog and get a full respray?

Have you priced the jobs Colm?
For me it'd depend on the cost of each...

Haven't priced either, but the touching up would involve working on front and rear bumpers, passenger quarter panel, passenger door, and the joining of side skirts to body,

It'd be better to completely respray both bumpers than blending in bits of them. and the quarter panel and door on the passenger side mean that that side of the car will have to be blown in. that's before you go doing the skirts.

Ideally I would like to de-spoiler the car and do some subtle alterations to the bumpers, I wouldn't do these jobs unless I was getting a respray.

I'd imagine the touching up would cost around €700 and the full respray around €1,600?

How much did your respray cost you?

Prefer the existing colour of your car - just get a good bodyshop to match up and blend in.

Don't like any of the colours as per above photos - won't suit a sports car like the FTO. If going for a different colour then better to go more dramatic - or if looking for a plainer colour might I suggest a gun metal grey or Ford Racing blue.

I like the Racing blue, presume that's the one on the Fiesta Zetec S and Racing Puma.

It all comes down to personal preference, but I like the way that Nissan bronze looks in real life, just trying to visualize it on the FTO.
Have seen some European show cars in dull colours and I like them.
That said, with this opportunity, I could pick a really striking colour....

There's a Volvo blue that I quite like, If I was doing blue again I'd prob go for that.

I suppose the next step is to get some quotes for both jobs.

Anyone here get an FTO completely sprayed, and if so, how much did it cost, and how good a job was done?

I had a few other jobs done when getting mine resprayed and it was done by a buddy of mine so I wasnt charged anywhere near the full price.

If you really wanted to delock/despoiler etc the car it might be worth a full respray which (for me) means a new colour.
Have to say tho I like the colour on the car at the moment.

Just remember, you'll be the one who has to drive the car so go with jobs that will make the car more appealing to you.

I quite like the colour as it is, but if I have to do a lot of spraying on the body I'd like my choice of colour!
Just find that while the colour is bright, there isn't much of a deep shine to it.

I love the colour on Dave's FTO, but wouldn't copy someone elses.
