Coolant/Anti-Freeze change?

Postby mark » Wed Jun 15, 2005 11:53 am

Anyone here ever changed out the coolant and what's the best way to do it. I'm a bit worried about getting air locks etc. After all it 's probably been in the car for 10yrs. Also thinking on changing the pipes for new ones, getting a couple of small leaks and the clamps are all pretty tight.
Cheers.

Its fairly straightforward, remove the cap on the upper radiator hose and open the drain valve underneath the radaitor, drain + refill with 50/50 mix of coolant and water (de-ionised if possible). Fill 'er up and start the engine, let it run for a minute or two, at that stage, any air should have made its way out of the system. Top up if required.

I'd only bother replacing the hoses that are leaking, you can get them cheap enough from Camskill.

Is there a (rubber) washer on the drain plug, which would need replacing?
