Your FTO Top Speed?

Postby tiernan63 » Sun May 03, 2009 3:00 pm

In a purely legal situation of course, what sort of top end have you managed in your respective FTO's as a matter of interest. I had mine at 120mph but it doesn't feel like wanting to go a lot more.

I've got new oil, oil and fuel filters, uprated plugs and leads going into it this week hopefully to try and bring her up to scratch a wee bit. And i'm going to try fixing my cold air feed a little better, and remove the resonator box on the intake tube... get a bit of better flow through it and see how it goes.

I had it up to 145mph on the clocks but not sure how accurate that is. The speedo and Satnav give different readings (the Satnav reads a bit slower) so not sure. AFAIK the cars come in from Japan restricted to 125-130ish so if you get it de-restricted you might get a bit more.

I thought JDM cars were restricted to 112mph as last time I was at OMA tuning guy was in getting his impreza wrx derestricted. He said it was a flyin machine till it hit the limiter at 112mph?? I know for german cars the limit is 155

I might be a bit off there as I'm guesstimating (and converting at 5/8). My old GS used to read 180kmh on the dials and it used to go off the clock as they say and then the restricter would kick in. I'd loose power and speed, when it dropped to about 170kmh it would kick back in.
So I'm probably a few miles off.

Mine's hasn't been delimited to my knowledge... but I thought Imports were limited to 112mph as well, or at least that's what i've always been told lol.

My old JDM celica was limited to 112mph... the clock would still go on round to 130mph, but with the sat nav on you could see it stick at 112mph. Therefore I assume it WAS limited but the FTO went on ahead with the sat nav on just to check.

FTO's gear ratio will allow you to hit about 160-165MPH in 5th gear

dunno what mine is, its still restricted.... and i dont see the point in delimiting her.... cant say my car see that much of the top end speeds, i like my licence having no endorsements..... i dont have much access to these "private roads" and to be honest im glad, i dont care who you are or what your driving experience is you cant fully control a car at top end speeds..... one little mistake and its goodnight Vienna! :k

i love these "my car is faster than yours" threads.... good for the ego boost for some people!

I've never done it, but heard that the FTO is limited so that when it goes up to 120mph, the limiter kicks in to bring it down to 112mph.

that sounds bang on to me... Hit the cut off only once in the time I've had the car, and it was exactly as described above..

Yep - restriction definitely kicks in at 112mph - just shy of 180kph on the clock. Plenty of beans left when this happens so gives you a bit of a shock when it happens.

If you are going past 180kph then your machine is definitely de-restricted.

Mine went off the clock and was still accelerating. Limiter kicked in after a while though.. Not sure what the top speed was but I'll have another go with the satnav and see what it reads :?

Mines limited but I've never pushed it either to test what she goes to, always thought limiter kicked in at 180mph and brought it down then.
Dont see the point in delimiting either cause I have no intention of putting her on track, but thought the factory top end speed was 145mph?

all jap imorts are limited to 180kph,the clocks will always show a bit more when it hits the limiter as they're not completly accurate,as far as i know Mitsubishi say it can go all the way to 140mph,can let dan away with the 165mph.....the benefits of a turbocharger :smt003

Yeah if it happens to be turbo'd like yours D  was my understanding a fit gpvr manual would run out of puff at about 150mph, pretty impressive for an N/A 2.0 I may add :D
