buying GPX

Postby doorrob » Sun May 23, 2004 9:36 pm

Hi
Just joined, looks like a really good site,
hoping to but a GPX, saw one yesterday, 80k kms, t/tronic, no service history, but fell in love with it. It all depends on the insurance man, would anyone know if the premium would be worse than a Celica? Couldnt take the car for a good test drive, although I think did turn a few heads in dunlaoghaire.

As it's a tip and they have the potential to let go I would do some more homework on the car before any purchanse.

If I were you I'd get out there and take a proper test drive - you need to really drive the car hard to find out if there are any problems with the gearbox. Also if you can get a mechanic to look at the car (especially the gearbox) - no service history means you've no way of telling how the car was really looked after (how often was the gearbox oil changed???)

Afterall you don't want to get stung with a 2,000 euro bill to get your gearbox reconditioned.

Welcome to the site doorrob.
Heed what Shane says about the Tip gearbox, he learned the hard way ;)
Apart from that, take a look at as many cars that you can, theres a lot of variation out there in terms of quality and condition.
As regards insurance, the FTO premiums would have outweighed a Celica premium in the past.
