Got a bike through this scheme today. Got myself one of these;



Got that, jacket, insurance rated lock, lights, helmet, sadle bag with tube and tyre keys, pump and a years maintenance for €935. I think that works out at €673 for me which is €56 a month roughly. Beats the hell out of 300 a month for petrol and parking.

Costing me far too much to drive in and park so I figure cycling is the next best option.

Brilliant! I wish I could do the same...the distance I travel unfortunately makes it impractical --- about 80mls..

There should be less nuttiness going on in Dublin now after the new speedlimits....but I still wish somebody would magic in some bicycle corridors or something..

Not if it's raining. I never fail to be amazed by the change in the bike market over the years. Time was when most people would be happy with a £200 mountain bike. Now it seems €1000 (for a push bike!) is the norm. Madness IMO.
I'd be afraid to park it anywhere unless it was completely secure, preferably indoors. Also it looks more like it's built for speed rather than confort, fine for a spirited blast on the weekend. but not as a daily commuter. Just an opinion though.
If you are happy that's all that matters.

Yep, Halfords do suspesion bikes for under 200, even if it got robbed every few months you'd still be up

I'm actually sceptical that the clampers actually all have devices to read the parkingtag devices - reckon you could park out there with the tag and never be clamped.

What do you reckon - DiliG or WildH have you seen them scanning the windows with parkingtags ?

We both got clamped week before last. Literally they had it planned. Wild had paid for parking and I, well, I was getting a coffee. But my boss saw and he said they literally came out of nowhere with a sticker and a clamp and had it all on my car in 2 seconds. Wild went out and confronted them but they were just ignorant. I have no problem with people doing their job but there is no need to be like that. Previously I have been threatened that they would clamp me using the phrase "I can get a clamp on in 30 seconds" to which I almost fell out my window laughing...just about held it back though, he looked like he would've killed me if I did laugh. Oh well, the appeal will be on its way soon and I'll get my quids back.

Yeah I think you're right Kace, they don't scan them, but they'll clamp you anyway!! I had paid for my parking on the parking tag and when I saw them taking the clamp out of the van I went out and confronted them. He refused to scan the tag and said "It's not my problem". What does that even mean?

So I had to call and pay to have it off. Now I have to jump through hoops to get my money back. Was absolutely fuming, but what can you do? Needless to say, I'm going to be cycling soon too. I bought the same bike as above.

Was your parking topped up then ? If not, how are you expecting to get your money back by appealing ?

That bay isn't marked correctly, and the law states that it has to be marked with particular signs at BOTH ends, which that bay doesn't have one on the side I drive into every morning. It's a loophope but that's what laws are for...to loop.

It was easier to just get the same as him than take a day off work and do the research myself. It's a decent bike, should save a fortune!
