Hey all-
I've been having very similar problems for a few weeks now.
First off the car kept cutting out on idle, then it started idling at over 2k.

Took the car to a reputable mechanic, he appeared to fix it but 20 mins
later it started reving high again.

Decided to take the car to Mitsubishi, like before they appeared to fix the problem but after a couple of hours it started overreving again.
The Mitsubishi mechanic did suggest that the Throttle Housing needed to be replaced.

So far my problem seems to be exactly the same as the problem that all of you were having.
But on top of this the engine has started hunting? while idling but also when actually driving.
High speeds are ok but when going slow the revs will start kicking up.
Does this suggest that the problem goes further than the stepper motor or could this be all part of the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's the Stepper - replace it. It will cost you 145 shipped to your door within a few days.

Just thought I'd post a follow up, might help someone else.

1. I removed then old Stepper Motor.

2. I let the engine run until it had heated up to the normal temp.

3. I turned off the engine and fitted the new Stepper Motor.

Now my car is running perfectly.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with there advice.

i have the same problem as hercules.
the motor is hunting and gets very bad at low revs, pulled up at the lights and the FTO tried to mount the car in front.

got a new stepper motor and installed but it has made no difference.

what do yous think? any ideas?

Is this just happening while engine is cold or all the time?

I presume you disconnected the battery when you replaced stepper motor.

no i didnt, want to check for error codes first
do i need to do that to reset the ecu or is it always required when fitting a new stepper motor

The ECU is automatically reset when you fit the stepper. -Why ? because you have to disconnect the battery to get it in and this resets the ECU.

Didn't have to take out my battery when I replaced my stepper motor so i thought I'd just throw this in there. Its worth a shot if it hasn't been done already.
