Importing an FTO yourself....ouch!

Hi lads and lassies (if we have any on here),

I just called the VRT again asking about taking in an FTO myself from Japan as I have a contact that could help me with this. I based my query on a 1999 GPX with 30,000 Miles and the VRT will be € 6128. If I am taking it from Japan I will have to pay Customs of 10% of the invoice price as well as VAT of 21% on (invoice price + customs charge)!!!!

If it was a 1998 GPX manual the the VRT would be € 5067 and then the cusoms and VAT on top of that.

If taking it in from England the VRT would be the same but the customs and VAT would have been paid already.

So that counts that option out!

looks to me like everything is just stacked against importing yourself.
