Kumho Tyres

Postby RussMan » Fri Jun 15, 2007 1:02 pm

Hi,

Getting new tyres fitted tomorrow morning and at the same time getting my wheels completely overhauled.

100 euro inc vat for Tyres Kumohs - 215/40/17'#s
50 per wheel for respray and then an extra 50 per wheel to remove buckling imbalance physically within the wheel.

What you guys think?

Don't know much Kumhos as a tyre - if you're looking for a reasonably priced good quaility tyre I'd be looking at Vredestein Ultracs - I think DTAS were doing some good prices

The price on fixing the wheels seems reasonable though

I can recommend the Vredsteins - very similar to the Eagle F1's in terms of grip and performance.

I've used Kumho Esctas in the past, they're a middle of the road tyre, very hard wearing but the downside is less grip than the well known brands.

When it comes to tyres, spend as much as you can afford. I've lost track of the amount of times I've seen guys throw a load of money into theirs cars in terms of mods and then scrimp on tyres - they're the only contact you have with the road, buy wisely!

Just got a new set of 215 40 17s myself from Dave McCann. I went for Federal SS 595s over a new set of Proxies. Don't want to spend too much on tyres this time and Dave came in with a great price, cheaper than anyone I tried. I'll let you know how the tyres perform over the next few months. The tyres seem to be pretty good value for money, serious rim protection on them also!

Got a set of Federals on mine a fair while back, Super Steel, 235/40/17 I think they are. As you say loads of rim protection, but the grip isn't fantastic tbh. I'm not skating around the place or anything but I think the Eagle F1s I had on the 16s had better grip. Got them for €95 a tyre, were recommended to me by the tyre crowd (apparently the local scooby dealer swore by them). Hopefully I'll get some Eagle F1s next time and be able to compare size for size.

I have to say they aint too bad in the wet lately, I'm doing serious mileage these days and want a long lasting tyre, Ideally I'd have P Zeros but too much bread and don't last very long. The Toyos I had were amazing in the wet for the first 10,000kms or so but then one day lost their integrety which was a surprise plus the noise levels went up a lot. Not fun on long motorways when your'e on the phone. It's always interesting getting new tyres and finding out their limits!

Hi Seb,
Dave McCann did them for 95 each incl fitting etc. He was the cheapest quote, most places wanted 130. each!

So if you ordered them online, how did you manage to get them fitted and balanced for 89 yo-yos ?

they have some garages working with them but i had to wait 1 day because they were very busy.So at the third ''tyre fitting'' company that i went to , they agree to fit them even though i didnt bought them from there!
