Galant VR-4

Postby CJ » Wed Nov 02, 2005 10:52 am

Has anyone driven a Galant VR-4 (or Legnum for that matter), if so, watcha think? I appreciate that they don't have the road presense of the FTO and while its a big heavy car, 280 brake out of the 2.5 V6 TT lump is a whole lot of power. The type-S would appear to be the top of the range model in terms of AYC, TC, Recaros and some other nice bits, like the FTO, the Tip box seems to prevail (IIRC its a lot more reliable in the VR-4 - Porshce built apparently). MPG can also be an issue if pushed hard but if you're gonna own a car like this, thats propaably not going to bother you.

Anyone had a go in one of these street sleepers?

The Alloys look very familar.

Never had a spin in one unfortunately but I'm sure that engine would do a lot more damage in an FTO than a weighty beast like the Galant.

The VR4 was a grand car in its day but its really starting to look dated.

Is that the same BHP as the one you mentioned?
You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said 'Parking Fine'.

Definetely not, the Galant 2.5 V5 is 160bhp while the VR4 puts out 280bhp, huge differnce I think you'll agree! You don't see that latter coming up for sale all that often, theres plenty of standard V6 Galants out there though.

Never driven one myself. I'd love to though, big fan of the VR4. While I respect the abilities of the lancer evo's and impreza's they are a bit too lairy and in-your-face for my liking. I've always liked the agressive look of the galant , even in standard guise, so combined with rally performance I think it would make an ideal car.

CJ,
There's a guy over on octane who runs one of these cars, I think he's based in Germany though.

I'd say that car is worth about half what he is looking for it.

id totally agree with mustang, that V6 galant in carzone is only worth half the asking price, resale value on these cars ( manual or automatic ) is one of the lowest ive seen

I'd the PSNI have great crack in that Legnum, the most the Gardai could hope for is a Mondeo V6 (170bhp).

I came across an unmarked Police Scooby P1 during my time in the UK a couple of years back - now that would be a good pursuit car.

Fine looking machine indeed!

Mad - I've seen a few of these around Blanch lately.. (even saw a Champagne colored one yesterday parked outside leisure plex at around 4pm) but those ones in the pictures just look so much better,...

Must be lowering, alloys & the angle..
