Now, what to replace the FTO with....

Looking at a 4X4 to replace the FTO with. Thought I'd stick with Mitsubishi, narrowed it down to a Pajero.
I had a 2.5 Pajero with work years ago and found it very slow, so that leaves either a 3.2 DI-D or a 2.8 TD. The 2.8 is a lot less risky as it's not common rail and parts are far more plentiful. As I'll be using this every day I figure SWB will be handier for parking and easier to reverse a trailer with.

Saw this 98 Shogun 2800 manual on Auto Trader yesterday:







Looks well looked after and I like the colour-coding and wide arches these late models get. This one also has Aircon and a few nice bits.

Whats the MPG like on the Evo, I know there isn't a huge difference in the official figures on the V6 petrol and the 2.8.

2.8TD GLS auto 21mpg
3.0V6 GLS auto 20mpg
3.5V6 GLS auto 19mpg



Stop putting ideas in my head! I'd have to check what companies would cover it commercially.

I drove it for a while when I was in between cars and it has similar ecomony to the Zed - 25mpg if you're careful - 20 mpg if you have a lead foot. My mates is a manual which I would have a strong preference for - HKS induction which sounds lovely when the mivec kicks in.

He hasn't actually put it up for sale - but its been sitting in the yard doing nothing since he bought a Zed a year or so ago. He hasn't bothered selling it cause he doesn't reckon he'd get a whole lot for it - though it'd be a FAR better drive than a similar year diesel Paj and it is actually in quite good nick.

Would def be worth viewing and making a offer.

If I had to drive an off roader, this would be the one I'd de looking at. Stupid quick for a 4x4, 280bhp and a V6 MIVEC to boot. They have decent looks and nice styling touches. Deffo worth a look Colm...

Its a tiptronic 97 - so its probably worth 4.5K - 5K. My mates 98 manual would be worth a bit more. I know he'd rather keep it as an ornament on his drive than sell it for much less than 6K. Its actually a lot of performance 4x4 for the money.

Drive a diesel Paj back to back with an Evo Paj and you'll be soon convinced.

The EVO Pajero look wicked bad I think. Saw a couple over the years on my trips to and from Mondello. I suppose it comes down to whether or not you want something practical or something fun?

Fair enough. That is a nice looking example you have there. Would the intention be to keep it as a passanger vehicle, or were you planning to commercialise it?

Commercial, the back seats are tiny anyway, and the tax on the 2.8 (taxed as 2.9) is €1,248 and the tax on the commercial is €288, I can tax and insure the Xsara with the money saved on tax. I'm getting almost 50mpg on the Citroen on long journeys if I take it handy, around 35mpg if I hoor it.

Diamond option pack gives you the wood trim (which isn't too garish), adjustable shocks, seperate rear heater, cruise control and other stuff I can't think of! they're fairly rare but even the normal 2.8 GLS spec has lots of kit anyway like headlamp washers, alloys, side steps, a huuuuuge sunroof and loads of buttons on the dash

A few minor mods planned - watch this space.
