Funny who you bump into!

Postby RussMan » Wed May 02, 2007 2:49 pm

Was in a filling station in Citywest yesterday. As i was coming out of the shop i saw a bloke standing at my car pointing at me asking if this was mine.... got into a rant about the fto and then eventually got his name.

Apparently his name was Tom from Kerry and he owns a few fto's, GTR Skyline and does a fair bit of Quarter Mile runs, wins this and that.

He then went on to say that he has a bored out GPX which is putting out over 400+ bhp. Bored out to what like! Anyway does anyone know him? He said he was a registered member on this site a few years back and knows the main contact for Fto's in Kerry... (Can't think of name but will post later.)

Will add a few pictures of the car he bluetoothed to my phone and you can tell me what you think of the 400bhp figure, Naturally Aspirated apparently!! I asked him what mods were done to get a figure like that and he said "sure that would be telling" ... I reckon thats bull .... opinions?

Judging from the Engine bay F all has been done to this motor to claim those figures! Red Paint on the Inlet Manifold +150 bhp.
Neon Blue lights front bumper +25 bhp.

On a 2L engine with 6 cylinders the cylinders are quite small in diameter.
I doubt theres much room on the block to bore the cylinders out by any significant amount?
400bhp from a 2l (+boring) n/a engine is impossible I'd say...

I'd have to question it meself, doubling the power from an already well tuned engine would take some doing and some amount of €€ I'd reckon. Especially NA, you'd expect a turbo would be included in any major power increase.

Still though, I'd be more than happy for the guy to come on here and prove me wrong!

Wouldn't mind having a closer look at that - if it is indeed even close to 400bhp from an NA block the cylinder walls would be VERY thin indeed.

The wee lad in the picture with the lady looks like he's about to drop his eyes into the engine bay..

Russ,
i reckon impossible, especially due to the poor power to weight ratio achieved with gamey scantily clad chicks trying to do tricep dips off the front bumper. :D
When he mentioned the Supra you should have told him about your 1million horsepower Fiat Uno powered by a Scania V8 and full 16 gear auto-box  either that or a Honda 50 with a F14 Tomcat afterburner.

Got any more pictures of the bird?

Not really worth talking about the 400bhp claim - if that car is even reaching standard BHP I'd be surprised - presuming he added an absolutely massive turbo and considerably strengthened the internals beyond the laws of physics and upgraded the fuel pump and added an ECU etc then why in the name of J3sus did he leave the brakes as standard? Maybe we should invite him along to a Westward engineering Rolling Road day so that we could feature this incredible feat of engineering in a performance mag.

Hope it doesn't have a tip box - 400bhp down the 1/4 wouldn't be long killing it....

Like CJ I :smt046 when I read this.... Maybe he's been0 :smt033 or :smt030 or even both...

My cousin met someone like that at a rally... said his FTO had an EVO IX running gear, and quoted similar figures...
