They look good and sound grrrreeeaat (ala Tony the Tiger), all I need to do now is come up with a CAI solution to drop the intake temps - more Wavin work on the cards methinks!
I purchased an Apexi Power FC (aftermarket programmable ECU) and handheld commander unit ages ago and never got around to having it fitted and mapped (mainly due to the lack of rotary tuning knowledge in Ireland)....
...I got it fitted last weekend though! Myself and a another pair of FD owners got on the boat and drove 350 miles down to a rotary specialist in Devon with the intention of getting some tuning done. The company in question (Dragon Performance) are a well respected rotary tuning house who regularly get featured in the Jap publications. Anyway, I ended up getting a used cat back and silenced mid-section (the standard exhaust and cat setup is very restrictive) while I was there and had it mapped on the road. The drive back to Holyhead was an eyeopener, the car has a significant amount of extra power on tap, it pulls much better right thru the rev range and fuel consumption has improved considerably. Even though it was mapped slightly rich for safety and reliability, I managed another 100kms per fill on the return route - pretty impressive.
One of the main reasons I wanted to fit the Apexi PFC was to get it mapped for 95RON fuel - the standard ECU expects 100RON @ the injectors and while it will retart the timing slightly to suit the grage of fuel, running 95 on a rotary is askng for trouble - detonation will kill a rotary engine a lot quicker than a piston engine.
The commander is a really useful gadget, it allows you to a certain amount of control over the map as well as displaying realtime stats such as injector duty, boost \ knock levels, air \ water temp etc. I have to say, I'm delighted with the result, the car is a much nicer machine to drive and its got more power under the hood to boot - how much I'm not sure exactly, I'm looking forward to sticking it on the rollers though
