This kinda device is always coming up on ebay...

How does it work?
It will modify any standard ECU by telling the ECU that the incoming air in the intake system is cold and so advances the ignition to compensate producing more power. In many cases fuel economy is increased too. Power is increased by up to 15BHP and torque is increased significantly.
It will be more responsive and you WILL LIKE IT.

What difference can you expect?
Increased acceleration at low end revs
Higher top end speed
Faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile times
Quicker throttle response
Smooth out flat-spots
Can increase MPG

so basically its a cheap & dirty hack. As you say if it was that easy why wouldn't the ignition be set that way in the first place? Maybe it does do what it says but what would be the long term effects on your engine?

more in laymans terms mate but same message :P

im sure a more knowledgeable bod will be along to explain why advancing the ignition in a standard car is not a good idea and why it would give 15bhp anyway

As all the guys have already pointed out - complete and utter waste of money - there's a reason remaps are expensive and that's because of the research and development work that goes into them ;)

Tell me about it, I've just shelled out €600 for an ECU and I'll probably end up paying another 250 on remapping (RX-7 btw), it certainly ain't cheap
