1995 mitsubishi fto gpx tacho install

Postby amacha » Tue Oct 09, 2007 12:53 am

Hi all i have a FTO GPX and i want to install a aftermarket tacho in it.Iv looked at the electrical wiring diagrams but i just wanted to make sure of a couple of things, oh yea there is four wires coming from the back of the tacho.
1:The black wire ground should be connected to the chasis or another earth in the car.
2:the tacho pulse wire going from the ecu to the tacho in the cluster is milky white C-05 (refrence in electrical wiring diagram).
3: the power and the illumination wire can i just put them in the inside fuse box where the fuse for the cigarette lighter is (twist them an jam them in). is the fuse for the cigarette lighter the 3-15A?

Can i do this or is it possible to put the power wire in the cigarette lighter fuse jam it in and have the illumination wire connected to my foglights switch?or is there a foglights fuse???

Bit cheeky there methinks

I suggest you download the FTO electrical wiring manual from the main site, this should help in your quest.

The ECU is on the left hand side of the passenger footwell, remove the kickplate and plastic cover to reveal it. I'm pretty sure that the feed to the tacho is referenced in the electrical wiring diagram, I seem to remember tapping into it (@ the ECU) when I installed a MIVEC controller a number of years ago.

Off topic again, where are you planning on mounting the new tacho?

Thanks alot CJ taht helped alot anotehr quick question though i have a mivec controller as well in my car would that already be tapped in to the tacho pulse wire so does that mean i can jsut tap in to that same wire again? eg its ok to have two things tapped in to the tacho pulse wire?.Yea tehre is a refrence in the wiring diagram it says its a mlky white wire with a 25 pin connector and its reference is C-05. On the harness to the ecu will it say c-05? Its only a 3.75 inch tacho ill work it out when iget it lol um ill post pics i guess when its set up thanks guys for the help.

Assuming the MIVEC controller shows RPM than its just a matter of isolating the wires and tapping in. Its likely that the current one is connected with a passthtu connector into the ECU blocks. Have a closer look at the electrical wiring diagram, I'm sure it talks about the block references at the ECU end.

Now you'll have the standard tacho, the rpm display on both the MIVEC controller and the aftermarket unit, you sure you have enough RPM readings at your disposal? ;)
