Central locking dead?

Postby sinlessgunner » Thu Apr 17, 2008 11:04 pm

Hi guys,

Done a search on this.....nothing relevant came up...

Basically I unlocked my car with the fob, drove it, came back and when I went to relock the car with the fob......nothing. It doesn't seem to be linking with the car like the sensors are dead or something. Theres 2 sensors though and both of them aren't working.

The light is still coming on on the fob so I presume the battery is still working in that......I'm just worried the alarm might start going off and I won't be able to turn it off and plus now I have no remote locking.

Anyone have any suggestions?

If you lock one door manually from the inside does the other one lock too?

Assuming it's a problem with the fob, have you tried resetting it?
The same thing happens to mine sometimes, I think it's just from having the keys in my pocket.

Holding down both buttons until the light on the fob goes from flashing to constant resets mine...

Yeah both doors lock and unlock with the key. The light on my fob is constant anyway......

What if I took the battery out and put it back in?

Take a look on the manufacturers web site, or if you have instructions, even better.

It's probably something simple.

battery might be weak. thrye to take it out & put it again. if it doesnt work change it.
if that doesnt work it means you have a problem with the motor

check http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/phpBB2 ... al+locking

I'd say the battery on the fob needs replacing.
does your alarm normally make the hazards flash when you lock/unlock?

Yeah when I press the fob the alarm beeps (once for on, twice for off) and the hazards flash with the beeps. This isn't happening though. The car doesn't seem to be picking up any signal from the fob at all and I doubt it's the motor because the key will open both together and I never had a problem with it before...

Hopefully it's just the battery. I went to an autospares today but they didn't have the battery in stock. Try Longford tomorrow.

most photo places sell those batteries - or if you fancy it would can buy a pile of them from eBay and stash them :-)

always Berno :-)

I have like 25 spare batteries for my alarm.. not sure what to do with them but the difference from buying 1 or 25 was only a few eurobob.. so I figured I'd go nuts..

Bump

Sorry lads but this is really starting to annoy me and I've searched everywhere to no avail. I replaced the battery...no joy. Same craic happening. Push the button and nothing. It's just like my Megane when the immobiliser went! Not as bad though thank God.

The car is supposed to beep and the hazards flash when I push the button but there is no response at all. If I turn the key in the door it opens the 2 doors. I'm just at my wits end with the thing because it's linked to my alarm and if the alarm goes off or I reset the battery etc the alarm will be armed and then I'm in a world of trouble....

Has this ever happened anyone before? Please help

Might be a stupid thing to say cause I've no idea really about car electronics but is there a wire after coming away somewhere leading from the sensors to the battery or something? Presume you've checked already anyway for that sort of stuff.

I've searched that yeah. Does anyone know where the central locking sensor is in a 95 GPX? I don't know where to look and I've a feeling it may be this more so than the alarm

you're running the remote locking off the aftermarket alarm and not the OEM setup (if even fitted)
the receiver is likely to be in the alarm unit under the bonnet.

AFAIK the alarm sends a pulse directly to the central locking system to lock or unlock the car, the factory receiver wouldn't be used.

Thats what I'm scared of. I'm afraid to go near it because the alarm might go off and I have absolutely no way of turning it off if that happens!!

Think I'm up s**t creek!

the alarm will only arm if you switch it on though.

Can you post a picture of the remote fob? or the alarm unit?

alarms

Postby karlf » Wed Apr 30, 2008 11:47 pm

When I replace the battery in mine I have to reset the fob. Not even sure how I do this, I just play around til I get it to work.
My fob has two buttons, one to set the alarm the other to test the alarm. Its a cobra alarm.
When the battery is replaced the little light stays on for a few seconds. Then you have to press and hold the button that sets the alarm on/off and the light starts flashing. Then it works. Its prob something similar with yours its just a matter of finding out what button to press and what order.
As I said the first time I did it I had to just play around til I got it. Still not 100% on how I do it (with 6months-1year gap between battery changes I forget, I must write it down next time).
What you could do is take a pic of the fob and some one here might have the same alarm and know how to reset it.

sorry if this sounds stupid

Postby karlf » Thu May 01, 2008 12:07 am

I'm only suggesting this because its done on my car, so might be the same on yours. My car has a sticker on the window and on the alarm box itself, but its not the alarm manufacturer its the name of the company that installed it. It has an 088 number which goes to show how old it is. That might explain why you cant find it on the web. A small company might not be mentioned. It might sound silly but just check again.

That's a very good point I'll have to have a look at that. That's probably the reason I can't find it. Will update when I get home from work.

Checked just there, it's definitly Spin car alarm system thats on the window and on the box. I cant get a pic up but there are 2 buttons on the inside of the fob so i'm assuming one of them is there for resetting or something...

So annoying but it's typical it would happen to me. On a better note just got my HIDs! :D

Trouble now...

After blowing the fuse for the lights on the HIDs I replaced it with the other 40A fuse, the one for the ignition and when I put the fuse back the alarm armed itself and I can't turn it off :(

Where does it end!!! It could only happen to me!!
