Penalty Points

Postby Dave » Thu Feb 17, 2005 4:27 pm

Got my first penalty points today, on the naas road (50km) doing 93km in the prelude, pulled over and had to try and explain to the cop why i hadn't taxed it since Novemeber! In fairness he was reasonably ok as cops go, he could have technically impounded the car!

That Naas Road is a b@stard of a spot to get done, its absolute madness that a 3-lane duel carriageway like this has a 50kph limit. Out of interest whereabouts were the boys hiding out when you were clocked?

down at the Harris-Iveco, the car was pulled in and they had a tripod up which i only caught at the last minute!
it is madness that it's 50kph, to come from the M50 which is 120 straight down to that, it's more dangerous than having the limit higher!

Agreed! It's a real cash cow for the cops. I know of quite a few people, none of whom I would describe as speed demons being done on that stretch. While the 50 kph is a temporary measure during road works, the limit on that stretch was always too low anyway 50mph was it?
The was a gatso van parked up there the morning I was heading to the last FTO meet in the RDS.

Welcome to the club - not exactly exclusive though!
I got my first points on the Stillorgan Dual Carriageway - 30 zone - though I was in a line of traffic doing 50MPH - Got caught on camera. Points didn't appear on license for some reason? And thats about 2 years ago now - so I presume some kind of admin c0ck-up. I got caught since and they said I had a balance of 2 points. I should have 6 but who am I to argue.

This is fairly typical of the cops these days - easy pickings - put a stupid speed limit on a dual carriageway and get your quota in a couple of hours - sure they'd have to wait all night to catch the one lunatic at the nearest accident blackspot.

Now I'm wondering is it such a good idea to travel in convoy with MfFTO to the RR meet

If thats the case my back garden must look like the moon, have you seen the size of some of the potholes on the road up to Westward?! I'm sure I saw a Starbo caught up in one!
