i am wanting to put neon lights in the footwell and have them so they only light up when the courtesy lights come on. i have the lights which have an inverter and a live and earth wire. what is the best way to wire these up.

You mean just when the doors open? you could wire them up the same way as the illuminated kickplates in that case... I *should* still have instructions somewhere but it might take a major search operation to track them down so no guarantees...

gives you something else to search for I guess in the meanwhile...

Wasn't there originally an option for footwell lighting?:smt017

If so it should be an easy job...

thanks for that cj but everyone on the fto site contradict each other..some say there is a live in the door switch others say to use the live from the light on the instrument panel as the wires on the doors are both earths...totally confusing....i thought i might be able to get a straight answer from the irish site :D

yep i checked that .. i got myself a multi meter today and got testing..
i do think that both wires from the door switch are earth.. one is a green wire and one is yellow.
i am now contemplating conecting the live wire to the permenent live on the stereo and then splicing in to one of the earths in the door switch..i think that would work ....(still thinking).

For what its worth, I think it would work too, easiest option IMO.

You could alwats email KMC and ask him for a copy of the install guide for the aftermarket kick plates he used to sell, I seem to remember that you have to hook them up to wiring beside the fusebox in the drivers footwell.

try....

Postby karlf » Fri Mar 30, 2007 11:40 pm

i did something similar 2 mine not so long back. I connected to the live and earth off the interior light, its easy to access just take off the cover from the pillar(???) at the side of the windscreen. feed the cable through the dash to behind the removeable panel in the foot well (just below the steering wheel). From there it shoud be easy to run it where you want. I'l try get pics up to explain better (reading it back its not very clear). If you wanted you could connect off the switched live as well, then you could turn them on when you wanted as well as when the door opens. Hope this helps

thanks for that it sounds an interesting way of doing it.
i have done it now but i attached the live to a perm live from the sterio and then i earthed it to the door switch so they only work when the doors are open.
