Spotted this car in Mountrath, at about 6.30pm Sunday evening heading towards Portlaoise and caught in the huge bank holiday tailback. OT somebody has managed to avoid the taxman for quite a while now :smt045

Is it possible to insure a UK reg FTO in Ireland for any period of time???
Its one thing not paying the VRT and not having road tax - it would entirely another thing not to even be insured.

I think it depends on the insurance company, I believe some impose a time limit, others do not. As far as the insurance company is concerned it is just a series of letters and numbers, so it should not matter to them as long as they are getting paid. Personnaly I would not agree with the insurance company imposing a time limit. As a private individual I enter into a contact with them. This contact and provision of service should be to meet my needs, not those of the state. Their regulations should not be set up to aid the government with tax collection, that is what the revenue (and gardai) are for. Not saying that I neccessarily condone avoiding paying tax, just that insurance and tax are two very seperate issues and should be kept that way. (yes i know you have to insure a car to tax it, that is fair enough though as the most important thing i.e. insurance has to be in place first).

Anyway this could be perfectly legit -long term visitor from UK. Frequent visitor from UK, etc. My comment above was in jest!
