Wouldn't say so, we have enough on the forum. And besides I think a club mag is starting to make the site very 'commercial', personally I don't want to see it get to the stage of commercialism where only subscribed posters can pm, put up for sale ads, post pics, etc, etc. Its nice the way it is and I think its best like that.

No real interest in this.

Anyone know out of interest whether the FTOOC in UK still churn out a Monthly Newsletter or did this die off.

They are of course on a different scale with 100s of active members.

I think I remember reading a thread on this reasontly, someone said they've had 3 or so in the 4 years they've been a member including the one that gets sent out with the membership pack.

There hasn't been one for over a year though due to personal circumstances.

May have been an old thread though when I was searching for something...
Get out of here Nebulon! No one likes your style...

nah, web is the way to go for stuff like this. even a UK/Ireland mag wouldn't be viable IMO.

The original idea for the FTOOC mag was conceived at a time when the Internet reached a much smaller audience as it does now, it worked back then for that reason. Fast forward 10 years or so and things have changed significantly in terms of how information is communicated and shared - the 'net is the only way forward in this regard.

Theres no reason why a 'magazine' type publication couldn't be put together and distributed in PDF form, that said, I feel that time and effort could be better spent on other persuits considering the size of audience.

You're jumping the gun here Marty, the concept of publishing a mag wouldn't impact on the openness that we've fostered and encouraged on the forums over the last 6 years.

No I'm not saying it has CJ, but every large site started somewhere, I've been on a site for a different car over here looking up info on it and its only been around for 6 years but theres no pm'ing, no 'off topic' chat, no buying and selling, if you're not subscribed, and some of the members opened a post on 'the good old days', when it was at the stage where it was everyone knew each other, had a banter, had a laugh, the odd little scrap, you know the craic.
I know that FTO-Ireland wont hopefully ever change much from the way it is now, its fun, and doesnt get out of hand yet can have a laugh on it. I just think that sometimes maybe more isnt necessarily good. It gets to a stage where people start thinking of it as a business, we overheard someone asking another person from the FTOOC about a newbie member that was at the rising sun, 'have you got them to buy any merchandise yet?'. Thats not what its about, or not what it should be about. Thats just my view on it, true a pdf type thing would be nice, but as well what content would be on it? Is there enough to fill it up before ideas start wearing out? Might be lots for the first few issues but then it'll get harder.

Marty, your concerns are noted, however, I still think you're jumping to conclusions. We had a similar discussion when we introduced the idea of a committee. At the time, I went to some lenght to outline our position in relation to the future ethos of the club i.e. an unchanged format - there is no reason why this would suddenly change with the introduction of a mag.

The concept of a mag doesn't hold much gravitas at this point, Seb was simply putting the idea out for discussion - no more, no less.
