I had to cringe looking at the steering wheel.
You must have someone looking out for you to survive that...

jesus...  Glad your ok mate. No airbag either. Your a lucky guy. You can replace the car but it is shocking to see. but thats good for the rest of us so thanks for sharing. I find it so hard driving this time of year, muddy slippy wet dark dazzling lights cold etc etc, its good for a reminder to just take it real slow.

Very difficult collision type for any car to survive intact - a head on would have absorbed more of the impact - these offset collisions can be absolutely lethal.

Not liking the look of the cabin (is that blood on the steering wheel?) but I guess overall I am surprised that the FTO held up as well as it did considering the age of the design.
You were very very lucky - anymore speed on impact and this thread wouldv'e had a very different tone.

You'll get another '95 GPX man, jesus look at that steering wheel you're very lucky to be here, forget the car!

I have to say this is the exact reason I am not willing to give up my stock steering wheel. I just hope the airbag actually works if it ever comes to the crunch (no pun intended).

The majority of FTO's don't have airbags in the steering wheels particularly the 94-97 classic front models. I changed my steering wheel in my FTO cause the old one was naff looking and didn't have an airbag either. I would agree that if you have the FTO Momo airbag equiped wheel then there is no point in changing to an aftermarket type - its a nice wheel if a little big.
Would be interesting to see if the airbag actually performed well on a 10 year old FTO. Anyone want to test for the benefit of the forum?

Mate, like alot of others have said a car can be replaced. There is only one of you so I guess if it helps, just think the car sacrificed it self to save you.
Looking at the pics if either cars were going any faster at the time, I doubt this thread would of even started mate.
The bit that would worrys me is the lack of a footwell now.

Anyway glad your still about to tell the tale and show us the pic's. Good luck with the recovery.
Lots to think about, nothing to worry about!
