Bad squeaking in engine

Postby sinlessgunner » Thu Mar 20, 2008 12:42 pm

Jesus I seem to do absolutely nothing but ask questions here ha!

Ok this has happened a few times after heavy rain, I start the car in the morning and this horrible noise comes from the engine. I can't figure out what it is. I know the fanbelt needs a slight adjustment but I don't think it's that. Once the car is running for a bit it stops making this noise. It sounds like a wet belt I think, I don't know. I can't really describe the sound but it's more than squeaking. Also can I tighten the fan belt when the car is running or should I turn it off each time?

The FTO belts are very exposed and are easy to get damp.
For a quick fix (presuming they are tightened ok etc) just sprinkle some talcum powder onto the belts while running (keep fingers away).

One of the belt tensioners could also be worn, re-tension the belts for a start and take it from there.
