A little bird tells me you aren't covered by insurance if you travel in a convoy. Now I never knew this, kinda scary...

Octane have banned non static meets due to a previous incident.

What are insurance companies assumptions on this, do they assume there will be too much faffing about?

What constitutes a convoy though. Any line of cars, no matter what make, could be considered a convoy. Surely someone from the insurance company would have to witness the accident, before they could prove you were in a convoy?

This sounds like a classic piece of urban legend. There must be more to this story let me guess did someone happen to wake up in a bath full of ice only to find that one of their kidneys had been harvested?

Not so peeps. According to the octane lads who tried to get cover on this, they were either refused or laughed at and quoted a billion euros.

Hence why they don't have those sort of meets anymore.

Do you really think, that the likes of QD would entertain such a claim if something were to happen and there were witnesses?

So let me get this, the Octane guys were looking to get some sort of insurance to drive somewhere - together ? Were they looking for the road to be cleared of all other road users or something ?

Otherwise, isn't that what each of us do every day - we drive in a line, together, to get somewhere, or to lots of places actually.

This makes no sense to me at all. Each of us is insured separately, I don't need any different insurance to drive along with 50 or 500 other cars, irrespective of whether they are FTOs or Veyrons.

I agree with Kace completely.
The OP implies that a bunch of lads were driving in convoy, had an accident. Went to their insurance company and said "Eh I was drivin' in a convoy with the lads from octane one of them braked and I drove into the back of him, we weren't messin' or nothin I swear. Can I have my cheque please?"

The follow up post implies that someone went to their insurance company and said "Me and my mates from octane want to travel in convoy, how much will that cost to insure?"

Most normal insurance companies, would not have a notion what is being asked for, could not offer cover and would politely decline.

Those that would offer cover would probably be treating it as an event -think St Patricks day parade. Which I'm sure would have a fairly hefty (public liability) insurance bill.

Christ, I just asked a question. I can't see the sense in it either, 50 different cars in a row in a line of traffic to me, doesn't constitute a convoy, but it must mean something to insurers. I'm guessing the event notion.

You'd have to be fairly easy offended IMO, each to their own..... I am just saying that if you would care to share the actual details of the 'incident' then maybe we could try and make some sense of it that is all.
