FTO alignment etc

Postby adrian » Thu Jun 03, 2004 12:31 pm

Dave McCann tyres (01 8202221) in Coolmine Industrial estate (near you CJ!) have a new state-of-the-art car alignment, tracking and camber etc adjustment system. 1st of it's kind in IRL. I got the S2000 done (45 Euro) last week and made a difference even though it was not too far out. It's a mad looking yoke. Anyway, being an FTO member still  I asked him about the FTO..there is a full Jap database on and it and he found the fto there. So, if anyone wants it she's pretty technical equipment

This is the way I'd come (theres one or two other ways mind you):

Take sliproad off the N3 that leads into the Blanch Centre, stay right.
You'll come up to a roundabout, take the first exit off (left)
Head straight up for a few hundred yards and you'll come to another roundabout, go straight thru.
Go thru 2 sets of lights, at the 3rd set, take a left, at this stage you should see Power City on your right.
Continue up until you hit a small roundabout, take a right.
Pass Statoil garage on the right, take the next right turn.
Follow road around and take a left, Dave McCanns is on the right, so is Kwik Fit, Sam hire is across the road.
Give CJ a shout afterwards cos you're in his back garden ;)

Cheers CJ,

If I head out I'll give you a shout cause I'll have had the offset castor bushes and (hopefully) the camber bolts fitted and everything correctly aligned. But the car is dirty again thanks to stuffing 4 hurlers into the car after training on a wet monday night.... I might clean it this weekend though

just had my fto in with dave mcann today, great service and the guys let you under the car while they do it ! they explain everything as they go along and you can see the graphic display change as they adjust the settings. its very impressive and 4 wheel alignment for 45 yoyo its a bargain. the fto setings are in the database so no guessing (3 of mine were well off) it feels a lot better now,,also he quoted me 155yoyo for eagle f1's

Good stuff, must get up to these guys soon. If you head up, tell them you got their details from the fto-ireland.com website! I'll might see if we can work out a discount or something (too late now , says Adrian, Shane and Ron ;))

After fitting a set of front droplinks, I decided to head up to Dave McCanns for four wheel alignment, I dealt with Dave and Jim, they were dead sound and let me check out the system while they were making adjustments. As was mentioned earlier in the thread, this is the most up to date 4-wheel aligment system in the country and the lads know exactly how to use it. The rear camber and toe-in on both sides where way out, the front was also adjusted marginally. The difference in handling while cornering is impressive, the chuckability of the car has improved substantially (I had alignment setup by Advance in the past and the results where no way as impressive). If you've never had this work undertaken, I'd recommend you look into it at some stage.

I assume they have all the correct measurements - I wonder would it be a good thing to get done in advance of selling the GR?

Yes, the system is pre-programmed with a compliment of Jap cars. Unless handling is questionable (which mine was), theres no real benefit to having it done before selling it.

I'm gonna head up there this thursday cause I think the tracking is way out now - dunno did I hit a big pothole or something but there's steering wheel vibration at 80mph now - (maybe wheels only need to be balanced?). I'm gonna see if they'll fit the adjustable camber bolts as well and set to to .5 deg neg camber at the front. All for the lucky punter who buys the car :-)

Anyone been up to Dave McCann lately - what's his current price to get all the alignment and cambers done ?

Do we have any level of discount sorted with him.

Cheers

I got a 2 wheel done on the golf for €25 - I think it was around €40-€45 for a 4-wheel on the GR when I was first up there.
