shift advice? Improve times?? I need to know

Postby LSpec » Sun Jul 15, 2007 1:31 am

When I bought my fto was dificult to drive with a RHD. Now that I already know I need to improve my drive skills :(
I´ve been participated in autocross, but cars with less HP, make better times so i need an advice.

I really don´t think that go to 8K rpm is the best way to make my car run faster. isn´t? :?

So I ask you, experts.

What is the best way to reduce time ?shifting at 8K rpm, 6, 5, or
9K rpm

For straightline speed, keep it in the Mivec zone when shifting, most of the power is at the top end. Shift up just before the rev limiter kicks in, practice makes perfect!

If you want to make your car faster - then make it lighter and improve the brakes and suspension.

As for gear changes - launch in 1st at 3000rpm - change into 2nd gear just before the limiter (you should actually hear the limiter chirp in as you change), now there a little lull in 3rd as you wait for a second for the mivec to come back on stream at 5500-5600rpm - flat out in 3rd will see you travelling at 95-100mph. If you are really brutal with the clutch (if you have an aftermarket upgraded clutch or a newish clutch) you could try just sidestepping the clutch on the changes (keeping almost full throttle) - especially 2nd to 3rd to 4th gear. 1st gear sidestepping will just leave you in a cloud of tyre smoke.

Of course theres always double declutching and heal and toe for the quickest ways around a track but thats nothing to do with how to make an FTO faster - thats how to make a driver faster.
