Surely 8k would be more realistic here.
Also mileaqe is exceedingly low - look for telltale signs of wear to pedals, steering wheel, seats etc. as the car should be immaculate with this few miles.

I'm sure the garage would accept 8K for this car. If the mileage is realistic then its worth 8K - however I have my doubts. As per Kace - check for wear on seat bolsters - gear knob etc. Also check to see if theres any markings on the engine to indicate if and when its had a cambelt change - if its not done then its certainly due. If not done then use this to haggle.

I wouldn't be that sceptical of the mileage myself, mines an early (Feb) 95 and had mid-late 80k kms when I got it, this is a year younger with 74k kms, and I've seen 95s with less mileage/kilometerage.

But of course as with all used cars give it a thorough check out, and question everything.

It looks very well from the pics...

If you got it for 8k you'd be doing nicely, assuming there's nothing wrong with it that we can't see from the ad.

BTW Johnny - Car looks lowered to me - is it on coilovers or lowering springs? Make sure you test drive and are comfortable with the ride.

On the face of it - it looks like a nice car - aftermarket alloys and performance exhaust (Apexi?), alu pedals etc - that'll save a bit of money on add-ons.

And of course its a manual GPX to boot :smt023

Ask to see the paperwork from Japan. If the car had been bought from auction it should have them. Examine the door jab for service stickers to verify the mileage. If missing be suspicious. Also look on the engine to see a sticker for cam belt change to verify mileage. On a black car pay attention to rust on the roof. Would it not be cheaper to import one yourself ? I know of a good agent

roof rust

Postby raymond.harper » Fri Nov 25, 2005 9:31 pm

My observation about roof rust is based on two thing. The first is that on my constant search through Japanese sites and auctions is that i have never seen a silver or white FTO with roof rust. The ones with rust have all been black . The sealant used in the roof of the FTO is hydrophillic and takes up water which causes the roof to rust. This is the case on other Mitsubishi's of the same era. Very common in Australia if you have been on the Australian web site. The second thing is due to something called black body radiation which is a term in Physics. I think a black roof will absorb heat rather than reflect it. This may cause an increase in temperature in the roof space and cause this sealant to perhaps take up any water or condensation and therefore predispose the car to rust from inside the roof. I admit that I could be wrong or is it just coincidence that all the UK cars that have rust in the roof are mainly black ?

I was talking to Giles at Japco the other week who said the main problem is for those of you with dark coloured cars. I.E. black and dark blue.
The strengthening struts were not painted before being bonded onto the roof and its the bonding agent that absorbs the moisture. Should have been painted first and then bonded together.
Not too much of a problem on paler coloured cars.
Not much help I know, but at least you know the reason why.

This is very true. When I was looking to buy an FTO I looked at quite a few cars and noticed that a lot of the black, dark blue and burgundy cars had these roof blisters. Some were quite bad. Red, white and silver seem to get them much more rarely. I'm cant' quite understand why the paint colour should make so much difference because I would imagine the manufacturing process is the same for all cars.
