HID installation nightmare

Postby sinlessgunner » Thu May 01, 2008 10:42 pm

Ok yet another horror story about my FTO :(

Was out installing my HIDs, switched the wires etc. got them in. Turned on the lights, no joy? Then a pop from somewhere....

Now no lights at all of any sort. I'm assuming its not the fuses if all the lights are gone. Couldn't check because it's dark. So I'm thinking...Light relay switch?

If it is this where do I even start? Please someone help because this is gone beyond a joke now...

sounds like you wired them arseways. you need to swap the wires in the plug. the FTO's plugs are backwards.

Don't know if this would cause a short circuit though.

Sounds like you blew a fuse.

Fuse, you must have short the wires when swapping them over.

Do all of the FTO lights run off one fuse? I mean the side lights don't work, the fog lights don't work, the beams don't work and of course the dims.

Has to be fuse as the fogs are switched seperately.

Maybe more than one fuse gone

Yeah I'll have to check all of the fuses tomorrow. I just heard this pop and then the lights were dead. Didn't think it would be a fuse because they all went. Relief then that it's not a switch because that would be a bloody nightmare!!

Checked the fuses this morning. Was the 40A fuse in the engine box for "Lamp" so that's that. Also found that when I removed the other 40A fuse (ignition) and replaced it, the alarm armed itself and went off I've no way of turning that off I've removed that fuse but what now?

Buy a couple of fuses so you have a spare one or two...Always do make sure you have fuses when doing wiring..Generally you wont need the - but it's a pain needing one and not having it :-)

Just hook up the HID relays backwards and you should be flying it.. Oh and I've seen a few HID sellers (on eBay) have started selling fused wires - possibly to avoid the Main fuse blowing - so at least if there was a "glitch" from the relay just the one lamp would stop.
