What can waste your FTO

Postby Kace » Wed Jul 30, 2008 8:52 pm

Just so we know what not to tackle at the lights - what are the marques and models that need to be left alone for fear of

I'll start with :

Do not even think about it :
Audi TT 225bhp
Nissan 350Z
BMW M3
BMW 330i
Mazda RX7
Merc SL500

Go on - give it a go if he's really annoying you !! :
BMW 318 / 320 / 325 / 330d
BMW 520i/d, 525i/d, 530 i/d
| Silver 95 GPX Manual | 20 years MIVEC experience |
| Silver 09 Audi A5 | 2.0 TDI quattro S-Line Special Edition |
| Blue 04 Audi A4 Avant | 1.9 TDI S-Line | (wifemobile)

Scratch that 225bhp TT off the list for a start - its very even with a mivec manual - in fact I bet the Mivec FTO will do the 1/4 mile quicker. The TT has a worse BHP/per ton and the additional transmission loss of 4WD.

Also while an SL500 and BMW330 may beat you at a traffic light grand prix when the going gets twisty it'll be a lot closer. I'd rather my old Manual GPX going around Mondello than any of the above.

For Jap Cars to avoid it'll be :

Turbo Nutter Evo's and STI's.
Honda S2000 and Honda NSX.
Nissan 350Z and Skyline GTR's.
Toyota GT4/ MR2 Turbos and TT Supras.

Give it a go:

Mazda RX8 (in both bhp variants)
Lexus IS200
Toyota Celica (except GT4)
All Jap Hot hatches (Corolla GTI, Civic Type R etc) except the 4WD turbos like the Pulsar etc
Mazda MX5

I'd say a DC5 Integra would be do-able?

It'll be tight - I've had a few battles with both the DC2 and DC5 Tegs on the 1/4 mile over the past few years and its been very close. They seem to be able to get into the 14's quite easily - though I've never seen a stock Teg do a 1/4 mile. I've seen NA Tegs do the 1/4 mile in anything from early 14's into the 15's so I guess a lot will depend on the health (& mods & weight) of the relevant FTO or Teg.

We all know what cars better looking though!

might be.
dc5's tend to be slower than dc2's type R's.

what about silvia s14's 2L . 220(?) bhp?
i'd say the mivec would beat the sr20det

Audi TT wouldnt be too hard for a manual to beat I reckon.
The teggie has exact same bhp has a gpx, 197 as standard, close battle.
What about Glanzas, if they have the high boost turned on? I find they can be seriously quick off lights and roundabouts.
I'd chance a rex-8.
The R32 Golf is a bit of a demon in disguise too.

I had a lil fun with a TT at the tollbridge before pretty close think he had me for hte first 150-200m and then i was well ahead by the time the roads had merged and we were back on motorways.

The DC5's are a heavy ass car for the bhp they have.
and civics and tegs id say a manual gpx would have all, well maybe a civic with a k20 drop in wouls be good to judge

Levin's are handy enough

Starlet Turbo's, does depend on mods but a GPX should normally take it

Golf GTI's are another fun one

Prelude 2.2 Vtec's - Tight enough

Who said anything about racing ?

I thought we were just talking about who could pull away from the lights the quickest, before reaching the legal speed limit 8)

You can't exactly do a 'Fast and Furious' drag on any streets I know of Dublin, when you factor in the near 24 hour gridlock :o

TT Supra for sure would shame the fto, but I wonder about the n/a, would the fto have a chance against that? It a heavy car, even though it does have a 3L engine its still a lot of weight attached to it.

TT Supra only - too much weight and not enough power in the 3 litre NA.

You guys might find this interesting.

It's just something a friend and I cobbled together while bored at work one afternoon. We tried to verify everything from as many reliable web sources as possible, but I certainly don't guarantee accuracy.

Maybe your definition is different but to me 'who could do whatever the quickest' implies a race, which implies racing. You don't necessarily need to lap a circuit or go any significant distance.

Anyway, just want to be clear that any form of racing on public roads is not encouraged by Fto-ireland, in case anyone asks!

I wouldnt chance an RX-8. My jap auto 210 is quicker than my GX auto. It beats the 8 off the line but the rotary just keeps accelerating and cathes it after a couple of yards.

A Manual Mivec would be a rather different beast though!
I've had both the non mivec Tip and mivec manual FTO's and theres really no comparison in terms of outright acceleration.

In this case the TT would pull a decent gap on the FTO - I know from experience

Remember, acceleration isn't about the bhp (especially 0 - 62) - it's about the torque and how it's delivered.

And in the wet it would be no contest

And mapped (I know, I know, but a lot of TT's out there will be mapped - it's the new done thing ) the TT wastes a lot of big machinery up to 70 (until the bhp starts to tell).
