Grinding Noise

Hi,

New to the forum.

I have noticed recently that there appears to be a grinding noise, the sound is resonated a lot through the top of the plenum. I know the tappets on the car are a little noisy but this sounds like some think is grinding.

Anybody have a idea what could cause this?

is it the v6 if so what bank is it coming from front or back

Not a noisy alternator or something like that is it?

NOT A NOISEY ALTERNATOR OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT IS IT?

Its at the back bank, being thinking if its the alternator. I might have to remove the belt to see if the noise is present.

get a long screwdriver, bar ,pole etc put one end to youre ear and the other on different places of the engine whilst its running, should easily help you identify where the noise is coming from, just be carefull of moving parts such as elternator and belts etc

Another question, do you know if the FTO has a pressure value to see if fuel is held in the rail as i have to attempt my car 3-4 times before it starts..

the grinding noise sounds like the same problem as i have,
this will cure it for me ,currently on the way to ireland.

I might have to take the belt off and give it a spin, it if doesn`t spin freely then that's the problem.

It appears to be the alternator that is making the grinding/rumbling noise, even though the noise can be heard at the top of the plenum. The chances are the bearings are going on the alternator, lucky enough i have a spare to fit.
