how to reattach Mirror

Simple question. How do I reattach the Rear view mirror to the holder. I push it up into place but there is no click or anything and the mirror stays in place but bobs around while I drive, I think the 2 grooved edges on the mirror clip need to go into these holes but they don't seem to click in. Has anyone any experience doing this? should I just keep forcing it in until it clicks?
Here is an example of the 2 grooves I am talking about. Thought this would be so simple.

Insert the long end into the holder all the way and twist until it locks
